Hey guys, I tried to join a Kyurem raid in Pokemon GO today, and let me tell you, it was quite an experience. I figured I’d share my journey and what I learned along the way. It might help some of you who are planning to take on this beast.
Getting Ready for the Battle
First off, I knew I had to prepare. Kyurem is no joke, and going in blind is just asking for trouble. So, I started gathering my strongest fighters. I spent some time looking up which Pokemon types are effective against Kyurem.

Turns out, this ice dragon is weak against a bunch of types – Fighting, Rock, Steel, Dragon, and Fairy. I made a mental note and started checking which Pokemon in my collection fit the bill.
Choosing My Team
- Fighting: I have this beefy Machamp that I’ve been powering up. Perfect, he’s going in. Also, my Lucario with those fighting moves looked like a good choice.
- Rock: I have a pretty solid Rhyperior and a Tyranitar that I could rely on. It is not easy to choose one, but I finally chose Rhyperior.
- Steel: Now, my Metagross is a beast, and with the right moves, it seemed like an obvious choice. I also had a Dialga, which I thought could be useful.
- Dragon: I’ve got a couple of strong Dragonites, but they also take extra damage from Kyurem’s ice attacks, so that was a bit risky. I decided to skip this one.
- Fairy: My Gardevoir is pretty strong, but I didn’t have a lot of great options here. But I know Gardevoir can do great damage with the correct move set.
After a lot of thinking, I picked Machamp, Lucario, Rhyperior, Metagross, Dialga, and Gardevoir. I figured this team gave me a good mix of power and type coverage. I made sure they were all powered up as much as possible. It took me some time to choose the most suitable Pokemon for the battle.
The Raid Begins
I teamed up with a group of other players. We all jumped into the raid lobby, and the countdown began. I was a bit nervous, not gonna lie, but seeing everyone else’s Pokemon boosted my confidence. We were all ready to go.
The moment the battle started, I sent out my Machamp. He landed some solid hits, but Kyurem’s attacks were brutal. My Machamp fainted quicker than I expected. Next up was Lucario. It did okay, but those ice attacks were tough.
I sent out my Rhyperior, and it was a tank! It took some hits and dealt some good damage. But eventually, it fainted too. Then came Metagross, and wow, it was a star. It tanked hits and dished out serious damage. Dialga came next and it held its own pretty well with the powerful dragon-type attack.
Finally, I sent out my Gardevoir. It was a bit of a glass cannon, but it managed to land some powerful hits before going down. And luckily, my partners took the boss down together just in time!
Victory and Reflection
We took down Kyurem! It was a close call, but we did it. I was pumped! I got some sweet rewards and, of course, the chance to catch Kyurem. Caught it! What a rush!
Looking back, I think my team choice was pretty good. Metagross was definitely the MVP. I learned that having a good mix of types is crucial. Also, dodging those charged attacks is key, even though I wasn’t great at it. I used some max revives to save my Pokemon after the battle.
So, that was my Kyurem raid experience. It was tough, but super rewarding. If you’re planning to take on Kyurem, make sure you have a strong team and a good strategy. And most importantly, have fun! It’s a game, after all. Good luck, trainers!
