Today, I tried to set up a quick switch bind in CS2. I used to play CS:GO a lot, and I really liked using the quick switch bind there. It’s a neat trick that lets you quickly switch to your knife and back to your primary or secondary weapon. Super useful, especially if you’re sniping.
So, I looked up how to do this in CS2. I found some guides online, but it seems like it’s not as straightforward as it was in CS:GO. Apparently, the “wait” command, which was key to making a perfect quick swap bind, isn’t available in CS2 anymore. Bummer!

I did find a workaround that sort of works. I went into the game’s settings and found the key bindings. I bound the “Q” key to a command like this:
- bind Q +quickswitch
This command is supposed to switch to your knife when you press “Q” and then switch back to your previous weapon when you release it. I tested it out, and it kinda works, but it’s not perfect. It feels a bit clunky, and it’s definitely not as smooth as the quick switch in CS:GO. You have to tap the button quickly for it to work. If you hold it down, it just keeps switching back and forth, which is pretty annoying. I also tried to change different keys but the same thing will happen!
It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing. I guess I’ll have to get used to it. Maybe Valve will bring back the “wait” command in the future, or maybe someone will find a better workaround. For now, this will have to do.
I spent a good chunk of my afternoon trying different things, but this is the best I could come up with. If any of you guys have found a better way to do this, please let me know! I’m all ears. It’s frustrating that such a basic feature isn’t as easy to set up in CS2 as it was in the older game. Oh well, that’s how it goes sometimes, right?
It’s a bit of a letdown, but I’m not giving up. I’ll keep playing around with the settings and see if I can find a way to make it work better. Maybe there’s some other command or setting that I’m missing. I also joined some forums to see whether other people got the same situation and I can get some inspiration there! If I find anything, I’ll definitely share it here. Until then, happy gaming, everyone!
