Alright, so I got this task to work on “Graves Splash Art” the other day. I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t even sure what “Graves” was at first. Turns out, it’s a character from League of Legends. Never played it, but hey, art is art, right?
So, I started by doing a bit of digging around. I found out that this Graves character is a kind of outlaw, rough-around-the-edges type. That gave me a direction to start with. I looked at some of the existing art for Graves online, just to get a feel for the character. You know, the usual stuff – his clothes, his weapons, the general vibe.

Then I got down to sketching. I wanted to capture a sense of action in the splash art, like he’s in the middle of a fight. I drew him in a few different poses, experimenting with different angles and perspectives. It was a bit of a mess at first, I’m not gonna lie, but after some trial and error I finally got something I was happy with.
Once the sketch was done, I moved onto the coloring. This is always my favorite part, I began to bring the image to life with colors. I tried to keep the color palette dark and gritty, to match the character’s personality. Lots of browns, grays, and blacks, with a few splashes of red to make things pop.
- Sketching the initial concept.
- Refining the sketch and adding details.
- Coloring and shading the image.
- Polishing everything up.
The final step was to add some finishing touches. I added some lighting effects to give the image more depth, and tweaked the colors a bit to make sure everything looked just right. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it in the end. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and the team at West Studio seemed pretty stoked about it too.
I also learned that there’s something called “BillionGraves,” which is like a database for cemeteries. Kinda morbid, but interesting I guess. And apparently, there’s a whole community of Graves mains in League of Legends. Who knew?
Anyway, that was my adventure with the Graves splash art. It was a fun project, and I’m glad I got to work on it. Maybe I’ll even give League of Legends a try sometime. Or maybe not, who knows?
