Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Slowking build in Pokemon Violet, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I’m not the best player out there, but I like to think I know a thing or two. I started out thinking, “Hey, Slowking is a tanky special attacker, right? Let’s just slap some defense and special attack on him and call it a day.” Boy, was I wrong.
Experiment with the First Moveset
First, I tried a Calm Mind, Slack Off, Psychic, and Surf set. It seemed pretty standard. The idea was to boost up with Calm Mind, heal with Slack Off, and then hit hard with Psychic or Surf.

- Calm Mind: Boost that special attack and special defense.
- Slack Off: Gotta stay alive, you know?
- Psychic: Strong STAB move.
- Surf: For some extra type coverage.
I jumped into some online battles, and it just wasn’t working out. I mean, Slowking was tanky, sure, but it wasn’t really dishing out the damage I wanted. It was just kinda sitting there, taking hits, and not doing much else. I lost a bunch of battles, and it was super frustrating.
Adjusting Based on Battles
Then I had a lightbulb moment. What if I tried something different? Something…spicy. I remembered this move called Trick Room that reverses the turn order, making slower Pokemon go first. And who’s slower than Slowking? Nobody. That’s when things started to get interesting.
I swapped out Slack Off for Trick Room. So now my moveset was Calm Mind, Trick Room, Psychic, and Surf. The strategy was simple: set up Trick Room, boost with Calm Mind, and then unleash hell. And you know what? It actually started working!
- Calm Mind: Still boosting those stats.
- Trick Room: Now I’m the fastest slowpoke around.
- Psychic: STAB damage, even better now.
- Surf: Still got that coverage.
Final Adjustments and Success
I won a few battles with this setup, but it still felt like something was missing. Slowking was still a bit too passive. I needed a way to really make him a threat. That’s when I discovered Nasty Plot. This move sharply boosts special attack, which is exactly what Slowking needed.
So I made one last change. I replaced Calm Mind with Nasty Plot. My final moveset was Trick Room, Nasty Plot, Psychic, and Surf. And let me tell you, this was the game changer.
- Trick Room: Making Slowking go first.
- Nasty Plot: Huge special attack boost.
- Psychic: Obliterating things now.
- Surf: Still here for the coverage.
With this setup, I started dominating. I’d set up Trick Room, boost with Nasty Plot, and then just sweep through teams with Psychic and Surf. It was glorious. Slowking went from a passive wall to a terrifying sweeper. I was winning battles left and right, and it felt amazing.
So there you have it. My journey to finding the best Slowking moveset. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. I learned a lot along the way, and I hope my experience can help some of you out there. Remember, sometimes the most obvious answer isn’t the best one. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try something new. You might just surprise yourself.
