Today, I decided to mess around with Generation 3 Electric-type Pokemon. I wanted to see what kind of team I could build and how they’d fare in battle. So, I fired up my old Game Boy Advance and got started.
Diving into the Hoenn Region
First, I had to choose my starter. I went with Torchic, not an Electric-type, of course, but I like its evolutions. I caught a few other Pokemon along the way, nothing special, just some filler until I could get my hands on some real Electric power.

Catching My First Electric-type
My first target was Electrike. I remembered they were pretty common in the grassy areas outside Petalburg City. It took a bit of searching, but eventually, I found one. A few Poke Balls later, and I had my first Electric-type for the team. I kept grinding with Electrike, evolving it into Manectric. This one was going to be a permanent member, for sure.
Building the Rest of the Team
- Next, I went for Plusle and Minun. They’re not the strongest, but I always liked their gimmick of supporting each other in Double Battles. They were found on Route 110.
- After that, I caught a Voltorb at the New Mauville power plant. It evolves into Electrode, which is super fast, I might use it for some quick knockouts.
- I also picked up a Magnemite at New Mauville. It’s a dual-type Steel/Electric, and its evolution, Magneton, adds some good type coverage.
The Final Addition
I knew I needed one more to round out the team. I decided to go for Pikachu. Yeah, it’s a bit overdone, but it’s an Electric-type project, so I must have it. I found it in the Safari Zone, which was a bit of a pain, but totally worth it. After evolving it into Raichu it became the final member of my team.
Testing the Team
With my team assembled, it was time to test them out. I battled some trainers, took on a few Gym Leaders, and even challenged the Elite Four. It was tough, I won’t lie. Some battles were close calls, but in the end, my Electric-type team managed to pull through.
This was a fun experiment. Building a themed team and seeing how it performs is always a blast. Gen 3 has some great Electric-types, and it was cool to see them in action again.
