Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about my little project: building an “Attackers Tier List” for Pokemon Go. You know, figuring out which Pokemon are the real heavy hitters when it comes to raids. It’s been a fun ride, so let me walk you through it.
First off, I had to decide what I was really trying to do. I mean, “best attackers” can mean different things, right? So, I figured I wanted to see which Pokemon generally kick butt across a bunch of different raids. Not just the best against, say, a specific legendary, but the ones that are gonna be useful in my pocket most of the time.

I started by just playing a lot, which is the best part, honestly. I joined a bunch of raids, tried out different Pokemon, and just watched what happened. Who was fainting all the time? Who was dealing out the big damage numbers? I started making notes like, “Okay, my Machamp is a beast, but that Gengar is too fragile.”
Then, I started to get a little more organized. I made a list of all the Pokemon I used regularly, and I started tracking how they did in different raids. I’d note down what moves they had, who they were fighting, and how long they lasted. It was a bit messy, but it started giving me a better picture.
Next, I thought, I gotta figure out how to compare these guys better. So, I started looking at some basic stats, like attack and defense. I also checked out some online tools, like those team builders, to get an idea of what other people were using. It gave me some good ideas, but I still wanted my list to reflect my own play style and the Pokemon I had, not some theoretical perfect team.
After that, I got into the nitty-gritty. I started looking at each Pokemon’s movesets. Some Pokemon have, like, a million different moves, and figuring out the best combo is a whole thing. I spent hours just testing different moves, seeing which ones charged up faster, which ones hit harder, and which ones were good against different types of raid bosses.
- For example, I realized that my Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch was way better against psychic types than the one with Stone Edge. Little discoveries like that were super satisfying.
- Also, I did use some online resources that show Pokemon news. But I only used the part about what are the best Pokemon.
Then came the hard part: actually ranking them. It’s tough, you know? How do you compare a Pokemon that’s amazing against one type of boss but useless against another? I ended up creating a few different categories, like “top overall,” “best against specific types,” and “glass cannons” (those are the ones that hit hard but faint fast). And even then, it was still a lot of judgment calls.
I kept tweaking and refining the list as I played more. I’d have an amazing raid with a certain Pokemon and think, “Okay, this guy needs to move up a spot.” Or I’d realize a Pokemon I thought was great was actually pretty useless in most situations. It’s been a work in progress for sure.
Finally, I realized that my list will never be perfect. New Pokemon get added to the game, moves get changed, and my own preferences and Pokemon change over time, too. So, I’ve accepted that it’s more of a living document, something that’s always evolving. And that’s kind of cool, to be honest.
Anyways, that’s how I built my Pokemon Go Attackers Tier List. It was a lot of trial and error, a lot of fun, and a lot of learning. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and it’s helped me win a lot more raids, that’s for sure.
