Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again! Today, let’s talk about those little critters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, specifically the ones you can catch in December. I’ve been spending a ton of time on my island lately, trying to complete my Critterpedia, you know how it is.
So, December rolled around, and I was like, “Alright, what new bugs are we gonna find this month?” I did a bit of digging and found out there are some cool ones making their debut. I grabbed my net and started my hunt.

First up, I went after the Atlas moth. This thing is huge! I spotted one chilling on a tree in the evening. It took a few tries, but I finally managed to snag it. It’s definitely a cool addition to the museum.
Then, I stumbled upon a blue weevil beetle. These little guys are kinda cute, in a buggy way. They’re also found on trees, and I caught mine during the daytime. Pretty easy catch, to be honest.
I also managed to catch a common bluebottle. You can see them around water and the beach. They’re pretty fast, but if you’re patient, you can get one.
Next on my list was the damselfly. Now, this one was a bit trickier. I found it near a pond in the evening, and it took some serious sneaking around to get close enough. But hey, I got it in the end!
After that, I went for the giant water bug. These things are kinda scary, but also fascinating. I found one in a river during the night. It’s a bit of a challenge to catch, but it’s worth it for the bragging rights.
There’s also the giraffe stag. I finally caught it on the tree in the evening.
The last new bug I caught was the Madagascan sunset moth. This one is beautiful! I found it flying around flowers in the evening. It’s not too hard to catch, just gotta be quick.
Besides these new ones, I also encountered some familiar faces. There are 32 bugs you can catch in December, total in the northern hemisphere, of which 5 are new. I think I’ve caught most of them by now, but I’m still on the lookout for a few more.
My Tips
- Make sure you have your net equipped and ready to go.
- Be patient and observant. Some bugs are harder to spot than others.
- Pay attention to the time of day and the location. Different bugs appear at different times and in different places.
- Don’t be afraid to run and scare away bugs you don’t need. It’ll save you time.
- Most importantly, have fun! Catching bugs is a relaxing and rewarding part of the game.
Anyways, that’s my bug-catching adventure for December so far. It’s been a blast, and I can’t wait to see what other critters I’ll encounter in the new year. I heard that there will be new bugs in the southern hemisphere in May. Let’s look forward to it!
Catch you guys later!
