Alright, so I wanted to figure out how to call time in MLB The Show 23. I mean, it’s not like it’s plastered all over the menus or anything. So, I fired up the game and started poking around.
First, I jumped into a game, just a regular exhibition match. I figured the best way to learn is by doing, right? So, I’m playing, and I realize I need to make a substitution, but I don’t want the pitcher to start his wind-up. That’s when I remembered, “Oh yeah, calling time is a thing.”

- I paused the game first. You know, just hit the Options button on the PlayStation controller.
- Then, while the game was paused, I pressed the touchpad. That’s the big button in the middle of the controller that nobody ever seems to use.
And boom! Time was called. The little umpire animation played, and I was able to make my substitution without any issues. It’s actually pretty simple once you know where to look.
I played a few more games, practicing calling time in different situations. Sometimes I did it to change pitchers, other times just to mess around with the defensive positioning. After a while, it became second nature. No more accidental pitches while I’m trying to manage my team!
Honestly, it’s one of those things that you don’t think about until you need it. But once I figured it out, it made the game way more enjoyable. I felt like I had more control over the flow of the game, just like a real manager. So, yeah, that’s how I learned to call time in MLB The Show 23. Not exactly rocket science, but hey, it’s the little things, right?
