Alright, so I decided to dive into the world of Leatherworking in WoW. Let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started out not knowing my thick leather from my rugged leather, but here I am now, crafting some pretty decent gear, if I do say so myself.
First off, I had to choose a specialization. I mean, who knew there were so many options? You’ve got your Dragonscale, your Elemental, and your Tribal. They all sounded cool, but I had to figure out which one was right for me.

- Dragonscale seemed focused on mail armor, which I thought could be useful.
- Elemental was all about adding those elemental resistances to your gear.
- And Tribal, that was for crafting leather armor.
After doing some reading, It looks like, if you wanna make gear for yourself, pick either leather or mail armor specialization, and if you just want to make money, you can choose both. Then I leveled up my Leatherworking skills, which was a bit of a grind. I spent hours skinning beasts and turning their hides into all sorts of leather. My bags were constantly full of the stuff! And let me tell you, finding the right trainers and recipes was a whole other adventure. I traveled all over Azeroth, from bustling cities to remote outposts, just to learn a new pattern or find a specific vendor. I even got lost a few times, but hey, that’s all part of the fun, right?
I decided to focus on mail armor, as this is associated with the finest Leather and Mail armor. I figured it would be more versatile, plus I like the look of it. Then I started crafting. Oh boy, the crafting! I made so many bracers and boots, I could have outfitted a small army. I made mistakes, sure. There were times I accidentally used the wrong materials or crafted the wrong item altogether. But I learned from those mistakes, and slowly but surely, I got better.
Improvements
Now, I’m at the point where I can craft some pretty high-quality gear. I’ve even made a few pieces that I’m really proud of. And I’ve made a decent amount of gold selling my creations on the auction house. It’s not enough to retire on, but it’s a nice little side hustle. This also made me look into what talents were good for making money. It turns out, The Leatherworking Discipline tree has two efficiency gain nodes, which is great for reagents and leg enchants!
I’m still learning, of course. There’s always something new to discover in Leatherworking. But I’m enjoying the process, and I’m excited to see what I can create next. It’s a challenging profession, but it’s also really rewarding. If you’re thinking about getting into Leatherworking, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in the time and effort. And don’t be afraid to make mistakes, it is all about having fun!
