Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this crafting set in Elder Scrolls Online called “Trial by Fire.” It’s a crafted set, meaning you gotta make it yourself, and it’s part of the Orsinium DLC. I first got wind of it because a few people in my guild were talking about how it makes you tougher, especially when you’re still learning the ropes of the game.
First thing I did was check my crafting skills. Turns out, you only need to have researched 3 traits for any piece to be able to craft this set, which is pretty sweet. I already had that covered for blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking, so I was good to go.

I decided to go with heavy armor because, let’s be honest, I tend to get hit a lot. The set can be crafted in light, medium, or heavy, but I figured heavy would give me the most survivability. Plus, you can make weapons and jewelry with this set too, which is a nice bonus.
So, I gathered all the materials I needed – took a bit of time, but nothing too crazy. I headed over to the crafting station in Orsinium and started hammering away. It felt pretty good to craft my own gear. Like, I actually made this! I crafted a full set: helmet, chest, legs, the whole shebang.
Now, the main reason I wanted this set is because of its 5-piece bonus. It basically says that whenever you take elemental damage – you know, fire, frost, shock – you gain some resistance to that element. Seemed pretty useful, especially since I was planning on tackling some of those tougher dungeons.
After getting all geared up, I decided to test it out. I figured I’d run through a few of the main story quests, maybe hit up the Mages Guild and Fighters Guild quests too. I mean, I always recommend people do those at least once anyway. By the way, if you’re not in Davon’s Watch yet, find the Hooded Figure to start the main story quest, it’s a good one. Anyway, I started running around, getting into fights with all sorts of enemies, and I gotta say, I felt noticeably tougher.
Especially when fighting enemies that used elemental attacks. I was definitely taking less damage than before. It wasn’t like I was invincible or anything, but it was enough to make a difference. I could stay in the fight longer, use fewer potions, and overall just felt more confident.
- Crafted it myself: Felt awesome making my own gear.
- Heavy armor for the win: I like not dying.
- Elemental resistance is key: Those fire-breathing guys hurt less now.
- Story quests and guild quests are fun: Gotta do them all.
- Definitely feeling tougher: Not invincible, but definitely more survivable.
I haven’t tried it in any of the 12 Trials yet – you know, Aetherian Archive, Hel Ra Citadel, all those – but I’m definitely planning on it. I think this set will be really helpful while I’m still learning the mechanics of those harder group activities. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the Trial by Fire set. It’s easy to craft, provides a nice boost to survivability, and it’s just plain cool to wear armor that you made yourself. If you’re looking for a good crafting set to try out, especially if you’re newer to the game, I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot.
