Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of Animal Crossing: New Horizons lately, and I got really into this whole gift-giving thing with the villagers. It’s like, a whole strategy in itself, you know? So, I decided to dive deep and figure out the best way to give gifts.
First off, I started just by talking to my villagers every day. See who’s who, what they’re into, that kind of stuff. Then, I noticed some patterns. Like, some of them are really into certain styles of furniture, and others are all about the clothes. I also noticed that, in terms of rarity, the octopus villagers are the rarest. I don’t have any yet.

Then I did some serious digging online. Turns out, there’s this whole science to it. I found this website called Nookplaza. It’s pretty cool, lets you look up each villager and see their favorite colors and styles, and even gives you some gift ideas. I was trying to find a master list of items, but that would have been impossible because of the massive amount of clothes.
I started experimenting. One day, I gave one of my villagers a piece of furniture that I customized, and they were way more excited about it than when I gave them a regular, store-bought item. So, customization is key, got it. Then I learned that if they ask for fruit, you gotta give them the perfect kind. Seems obvious now, but I didn’t know at first.
- Talk to villagers daily: Getting to know their personalities and preferences.
- Observe patterns: Paying attention to their reactions and dialogue.
- Research online resources: Using Nookplaza to find out favorite colors and styles.
- Experiment with gifts: Giving different types of items to see what works best.
- Customize furniture: Personalizing items to make them more special.
- Give perfect fruit: Offering high-quality fruit when requested.
Then there’s the whole friendship level thing. I read that if a villager randomly comes to your house, that means your friendship level is pretty high. So, I’ve been keeping an eye out for that. I also experimented with the game’s clock to find the best time to give gifts. I turned off the internet syncing to time and date, and picked a time I knew the villager would be awake. Seems to work best that way.
Oh, and one more thing I learned: villagers can only wear certain types of clothes, mainly tops and dresses. So, no point in gifting them pants, I guess. I tried to trade with another player to get a specific villager but it didn’t work, sadly. I’ll try again sometime.
Anyways, it’s been a fun little experiment. I feel like I’m getting better at picking out gifts they’ll actually like. It’s all about paying attention and putting in a little effort. Makes the whole game more fun, you know?
My Findings:
- Customized furniture > regular furniture
- Perfect fruit is a must when they ask for fruit
- Octopus villagers are the rarest
- Friendship level matters
- Villagers can only wear tops and dresses
So yeah, that’s my Animal Crossing gift-giving journey so far. I’m still learning, but it’s been a blast. Gotta keep trying to get a villager to come to my house uninvited!
