Alright, guys, today I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with in Pokémon GO: Azelf. Is it any good? Well, I went on a bit of a journey to find out, and let me tell you, it was interesting.
First off, I started by looking up some basic info about Azelf. Apparently, it’s one of those super rare Pokémon that just pop up in the wild, though I never got one this way. I did manage to snag one during a special event, so that was a win. It’s a Psychic-type, which means it should be strong against Fighting and Poison types, right? That was my initial thought, anyway.

I started using Azelf in some raids. I noticed right away that it hits pretty hard, especially with its fast move. I went up against some Fighting-type and Poison-type raid bosses, like a Machamp and a Mega Beedrill, and yeah, Azelf did decent. But then I started to wonder about its weaknesses.
Turns out, Azelf is weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves. Ouch. I learned that the hard way when I got absolutely wrecked by a Gengar and Pheromosa. I mean, these guys just tore through Azelf like it was nothing. It wasn’t pretty. There were also some other strong contenders, like a Chandelure. That thing roasted my poor Azelf. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed.
My Experiments and Battles
After getting thrashed a few times, I decided to do some more digging. I found out that Azelf is actually considered the best out of the Lake Guardians in terms of competitive play. It’s got some solid stats, especially in Attack and Speed. This makes sense because I felt it was quite fast and powerful.
- Catching Azelf: I tried for days to find Azelf in the wild, walking around my neighborhood like a crazy person. No luck. Turns out, it’s super rare, and I only got one because of that event I mentioned.
- Raid Battles: I threw Azelf into a bunch of raids. It did okay against the right types, but I had to switch it out pretty quick when those Bug, Ghost, and Dark types showed up.
- PvP Battles: I even tried Azelf in some PvP battles. Mixed results, to be honest. It can definitely dish out some damage, but you gotta be careful about those weaknesses.
So, what’s the verdict? Is Azelf good in Pokémon GO?
Well, it’s complicated. It’s definitely strong in certain situations, and it’s got some great stats. But those weaknesses are a real problem. You gotta know what you’re doing and have some backup Pokémon ready to go.
Honestly, I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about Azelf. It’s kind of a glass cannon. Powerful, but fragile. I’m gonna keep using it, though, and see if I can figure out some better strategies. Maybe I’ll even find another one in the wild someday, but I’m not holding my breath. Anyway, I hope this record of my experiences was entertaining at least. Catch you guys later!
