Okay, so yesterday I was trying to get that sweet experience boost in Elder Scrolls Online with my buddy, you know, through the Ring of Mara thing. We figured it would be a piece of cake, but it turned out to be a bit more involved than we initially thought.
First off, I had to make sure I had the right version of the game. Turns out, only players with the Imperial Edition can actually get the Rings of Mara. I checked my game edition, and luckily, I had the Imperial Edition. Phew, that was the first hurdle cleared!

Next, I read somewhere that we both needed a “Pledge of Mara” to get started. So, I went on a little hunt for information about this Pledge of Mara thing. Turns out, it’s an item you need to perform the ritual. I already had one, must have been from when I bought that Imperial Edition long ago.
Then came the actual process. We both headed to a Shrine of Mara – there are a few of these scattered around the game world, so we just picked one and met up there. I equipped the Pledge of Mara to my quickslot menu, which was pretty straightforward. You just drag and drop it into one of those slots, easy peasy.
Once I had the Pledge ready, I targeted my friend in the game, you know, hovered my cursor over his character, and then I activated the Pledge. It’s like using any other item from your quickslot. The game then prompted my friend to accept the ritual. He clicked “yes,” and we were officially hitched in the game! You should have seen the little animation that played, pretty neat.
But here’s the important part – to actually get that 10% experience boost, we both have to wear the Ring of Mara AND be in a group together. After the ritual, each of us received a ring. We equipped the rings, made sure we were grouped up, and voila, the experience points started rolling in a bit faster.
Here’s a quick rundown of what we did:
- Made sure I had the Imperial Edition of the game.
- Located a Pledge of Mara in my inventory.
- Both of us traveled to a Shrine of Mara.
- Equipped the Pledge of Mara to my quickslot.
- Targeted my friend and activated the Pledge.
- My friend accepted the ritual request.
- Both of us equipped our Rings of Mara.
- Grouped up together in the game.
It might sound a bit complicated when you lay it all out like that, but it’s not too bad once you get into it. The hardest part was probably just figuring out all the steps involved, but hey, now we’re both getting that sweet experience bonus, so it was totally worth it. Teamwork makes the dream work, even in Tamriel!
