Okay, so I’ve been messing around in Pokemon GO again lately, and I got to thinking about Slowpoke’s evolutions. You know, Slowbro and Slowking? I was wondering which one was actually better, so I did some digging and playing around.
First off, I went and caught a bunch of Slowpokes. I just walked around areas where they’re common, tossing Pokeballs like there’s no tomorrow. It took a while, but I finally got enough candies to evolve a couple.

For the first one, I just straight-up evolved it into a Slowbro. In Pokemon GO, all you gotta do is feed a Slowpoke 50 candies, and boom, you got yourself a Slowbro. Pretty simple, right? And I gotta say, this guy’s a beast when it comes to defense. I threw him into a few gym battles, and he just soaked up hits like a sponge.
- Slowbro:
- Evolve: Feed Slowpoke 50 candies
- Good defense
Next, I worked on getting a Slowking. Now, this one’s a bit trickier. You need a King’s Rock, a linking cable, and 80 candies. I spent some time spinning PokeStops until I finally got that King’s Rock. The candies took some more grinding, and the linking cable, well, I already had it.
Once I had everything, I evolved another Slowpoke into Slowking. This guy is less about taking hits and more about dishing them out, at least when it comes to special attacks. I noticed he was hitting harder with his special moves in battles. I mean, both Slowbro and Slowking have the same type—Psychic and Water. But Slowking felt like he had more oomph behind his special attacks.
- Slowking:
- Evolve: Need King’s Rock, linking cable, and 80 candies
- Good special attack
After playing with both of them, here’s my take: If you want a Pokemon that can take a beating and just keep on going, Slowbro is your guy. His defense is seriously impressive. He’s like a wall. But, if you want a Pokemon that can dish out some serious damage with special attacks, Slowking is the way to go.
I also noticed that the Slowking is a bit quicker, and I think it has a little extra room in its inventory, which is a nice little bonus. But evolving it is definitely more of a hassle with needing that King’s Rock and extra candies. I remember comparing their max CP and HP, moves, and stuff like that. But honestly, the main difference I felt was in their defense and special attack stats.
So, which one’s better?
Honestly, it depends on what you’re looking for. Both are cool in their own way. I’m kind of leaning towards Slowbro because I like having a Pokemon that can last a long time in battles, but Slowking’s special attack is nothing to sneeze at. Anyway, that’s my little experiment with Slowbro and Slowking. It was fun figuring out the differences and seeing them in action. Hope this helps anyone else who’s trying to decide which one to evolve!
