Hey guys, I’ve been messing around with MLB The Show 24 lately, and I got a question that I’ve been trying to figure out: can you actually change your player’s position in the game? It bugged me for a while, so I started digging around to find an answer.
At first, I went straight into Road to the Show mode. I started playing games, hoping that maybe I’d get a chance to switch positions naturally. I played a bunch of games as a shortstop, but I was really itching to get on the mound and try my hand at pitching. No luck. Nothing seemed to trigger a position change. I even tried talking to my manager in the game, but that didn’t do anything either.

Then I thought, maybe it’s something I need to do in the settings or during those training sessions. I spent some time poking around in the menus. Looked through all the options, tried tweaking some things during training, but still, nothing. I was starting to get a bit frustrated, to be honest.
So, I did what any normal person would do – I hit up the internet. I started Googling, looking for any info on how to change positions in MLB The Show 24. I found a few forum posts and articles, but a lot of them were pretty vague. Some folks said it might be possible to ask your agent to request a role change, but they also said they tried simulating through a few seasons and never got the option. That didn’t sound too promising.
I stumbled upon another comment mentioning that you could only get a secondary position if you were a Two Way Player or if the manager asked you to change because of a better player on the team. In that case, your original position would become the secondary one. That made some sense, but I really wanted to force the change myself, you know?
Finally, I found a glimmer of hope. One person said they found a way to do it! I tried to simulate a long time in game, and then I got a chance to talk to my manager.
- Start a new game, choose your team and position.
- Skip a long time for simulating.
- Find the “My Ballplayer” menu and go to “Loadout”.
- Find “Interactions” and select the manager, then you can choose your new position.
After all that trial and error, it felt pretty good to finally figure it out. Now I can switch between hitting dingers and striking guys out, which is awesome.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my little adventure with you all. Hopefully, this helps someone else out there who’s been pulling their hair out trying to change positions in MLB The Show 24. Game on, folks!
