Alright, let’s talk about Hariyama. I’ve been messing around with this Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO for a while now, and I think I’ve finally cracked the code on the best moveset for it. It took some trial and error, let me tell you!
So, initially, I was all over the place with Hariyama’s moves. I tried a bunch of different combinations, you know, just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. I even tried using the move ‘Smelling Salts’ because I read somewhere that only Hariyama and Makuhita can learn it by leveling up, and I thought, “Hey, maybe this is some secret weapon!” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

Then I started digging around online, reading what other people were saying. Some folks were recommending Force Palm and Dynamic Punch. I saw some numbers like “14.80 DPS” and “248.6 TDO” being thrown around, but honestly, those stats didn’t mean much to me at first. I just wanted to see how it performed in actual battles.
The Experiment
I started experimenting with different Fast Moves. Bullet Punch seemed okay-ish, but it’s a Steel-type move, and it didn’t feel like it was hitting very hard. Plus, I couldn’t use it as much as I wanted to. Then I switched to Counter. Now, this is where things started to get interesting. Counter is a Fighting-type move, so it gets that Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB), which means it does extra damage. It felt much stronger, and I could spam it pretty frequently.
For Charge Moves, I went with Close Combat at first. Man, this move packs a punch! It’s also a Fighting-type move, so it gets that STAB goodness. I was taking down Gyms and winning raids like it was nobody’s business. Then I had a thought. I wanted something that was good against multiple types of enemies. This is when I found Heavy Slam, which is strong against Fairy-type Pokemon, which is something Fighting-types struggle against.
The Winning Combo
After all that experimenting, here’s what I landed on: Counter as the Fast Move, and Close Combat and Heavy Slam as the Charge Moves. This combo has been working wonders for me. Counter lets me build up energy quickly, and then I can unleash those powerful Charge Moves to deal some serious damage.
Here are some other tips:
- Keep your Hariyama’s level high so it can do the most damage.
- Look for a Hariyama with good IVs. You can use an IV checker to do this.
- Fight on cloudy days so you can get a damage boost!
I even tried out the Shadow version of Hariyama, just for kicks. It definitely hits harder, but it also takes more damage. It’s a bit of a glass cannon, but it can be fun to use if you like living on the edge.
So yeah, that’s my Hariyama journey. It took some time, but I’m pretty happy with where I ended up. If you’re looking to power up your Hariyama, give this moveset a try. You might be surprised at how effective it is!
