Okay, so, I’ve been playing a ton of Pokémon Go lately, and I was really pumped to try and catch a Ponyta. You know, the Fire-type horse Pokémon? It’s always been one of my favorites, especially the Galarian version, which is Psychic-type. Anyway, I wanted to share my experience trying to snag one, in case anyone else is on the hunt.
Getting Started
First off, I remembered reading something about a “Valor Global Challenge” that had a reward where you could get a Candela Accessory Ponyta. I figured that would be my best bet, so I made sure to complete that challenge. That was a whole thing in itself, but I was doing tons of challenges anyway, so it wasn’t too bad.

Finding Ponyta in the Wild
But I also wanted to try and catch a regular Ponyta in the wild. I did a little digging online and found out that they tend to pop up in warmer climates, beaches, and parks. Lucky for me, I live near a beach, so I started spending more time there during my walks.
I also learned that Ponyta is weak against Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves. So, I made sure to have some Pokémon with those types of moves in my party, just in case I ran into one and needed to battle it.
The Galarian Ponyta Hunt
For the Galarian Ponyta, I found out that you can find them in a place called Glimwood Tangle. Now, I haven’t gotten that far in the main series games, so I wasn’t really sure where that was in Pokémon Go. But, I figured it would be worth a shot to keep an eye out for any special events or areas that might pop up.
The Wait Game
So far, I haven’t actually caught a Ponyta yet, sadly. But I’ve been keeping at it! I go on walks almost every day, checking out those warm, beachy areas, and keeping my eyes peeled. I know their maximum Combat Power is around 1919, so I’m always looking for something in that range.
Candy and Evolution
I also know that you need 50 candies to evolve Ponyta into Rapidash. I’ve got some, but still a long way to go. Every time I catch a Pokémon, I make sure to transfer it if I don’t need it, just to get more candies for when I finally do catch my Ponyta.
Still Going!
It’s been a bit of a grind, but I’m not giving up. Catching a Ponyta, especially a Galarian one, is definitely a goal of mine in Pokémon Go. I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress. If anyone has any tips, please send them my way! Happy hunting!
- Walked to a nearby beach known for Fire-type spawns.
- Explored different parks and areas with warmer climates.
- Participated in battles to earn rewards and candies.
- Kept an eye out for in-game events or special locations.
- Transferred unwanted Pokémon to collect candies for evolution.
I know it might not sound like much, but it’s been a fun little side quest in my Pokémon Go adventures. Gotta catch ’em all, right? Wish me luck!
