Alright, so today I wanted to mess around with Tahm Kench in TFT, specifically trying to figure out what items work best on him. I’ve heard a lot of different opinions, so I figured, why not just dive in and see for myself?
First off, I started playing a few normal games to get a feel for Tahm Kench’s abilities. He’s a tanky guy who can also gobble up other units. Sounds simple enough, right? I learned that feeding him a unit once per planning phase is a thing, which is pretty wild. So, my initial thought was, “Okay, let’s make this guy as tanky as possible.”

Getting Started: Early Game Testing
In my first couple of games, I slapped on any tank items I could find. I was looking at things like Warmog’s, Sunfire Cape, and whatever else I could get my hands on. I just wanted to see how hard it was to take him down. During these matches, I noticed that Tahm Kench could hold his own pretty well, especially when I fed him some random units to buff him up.
Experimenting with Different Items
- Game 1: I used Warmog’s and Sunfire. He was super hard to kill, but I felt like he wasn’t doing much other than just standing there.
- Game 2: I tried a Bramble Vest and Dragon’s Claw. This was better! He was reflecting damage and taking less magic damage, which was cool. I also kept feeding him units, making him even beefier.
- Game 3: This time, I went for a more aggressive approach, but still focused on his tankiness. I used a mix of Bramble Vest and something like Redemption. I noticed that keeping him alive longer let him eat more enemies and become stronger over time. I also made sure to position him near other enemies—apparently, he can affect those within 2 hexes, which is neat.
Analyzing the Data
After a few games, I started to notice a pattern. The best way to build Tahm Kench seemed to be focusing on items that increased his survivability while also letting him make use of his ability to consume units. Items that reflected damage or provided healing over time were great. It was kind of like turning him into an unkillable, enemy-eating machine.
Final Build and Strategy
So, what did I settle on? Well, my favorite build ended up being a combination of Bramble Vest, Dragon’s Claw, and Redemption. This combo made him incredibly durable, able to withstand both physical and magical attacks, and heal up over time. Plus, feeding him a unit each turn just made him stronger and stronger.
I also experimented with positioning, trying to keep him close to as many enemies as possible to maximize his passive effect. It turns out, playing around his “Glutton” ability to consume units is key to making him a real threat on the board.
All in all, it was a fun experiment. Tahm Kench is a blast to play when you build him right. You just gotta focus on making him a super tank and feeding him lots of units. Give it a shot and see for yourself!
