Okay, so I’ve been messing around with these “galaxy foil” cards from Magic: The Gathering, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a trip. I really love it!
First off, I snagged a bunch of these galaxy foil orbital basics. I ripped open the packs and started flipping through them. The foiling effect is pretty cool, I guess, but it’s kinda weird. Like, you’ve got these big planets on the cards, right? They’re supposed to be the main attraction. But the foiling doesn’t really show up on them. It’s more around the edges and in the background. I mean, I kinda get why they did it that way, the big planets are the focus, but still…it feels a little off.

Collector Box Toppers
Then, I started looking into the box toppers. Apparently, all the regular box toppers are just regular foil, you know, the usual shiny stuff. And get this – the collector box toppers are the exact same as the draft box toppers. What’s the point of calling them “collector” if they’re the same? It just feels like a marketing gimmick to me. I really do not like it.
Unfinity
And don’t even get me started on all these different types of foil they’ve got now. It’s like a whole new language you gotta learn. I played a bit of Unfinity, and that set has its own special foil thing going on, which is okay. So now I’ve got regular foil, galaxy foil, and whatever Unfinity is doing. It’s all a bit much, to be honest. It’s confusing, and I don’t think it adds that much to the game. I also don’t want to learn it.
Premium Cards
Now, I know some folks are really into these foil cards. They call them “premium” cards, like they’re somehow better than the regular ones. But to me, they’re just cards with a shiny finish. I mean, they look kinda cool, I guess, but they don’t make the game any more fun or anything.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with these galaxy foil cards. It’s been interesting, but I’m not sure I’m fully on board with the whole thing. Maybe I just need more time to get used to it. Maybe, I will find it boring someday. Or maybe I’m just an old-school Magic player who’s set in his ways. Who knows? Through this cosmic journey, it was really a new experience.
So, yeah, that’s my two cents on the matter. What do you guys think about these new-fangled foil cards?
