Hey everyone, so I’ve been messing around with this “Elder Scrolls Online” thing, and let me tell you, the whole marriage system is a trip. Today, I’m gonna walk you through my experience with the Shrine of Mara and how I actually managed to tie the knot in-game.
First off, I had to find this Shrine of Mara. Turns out, they’re in most of the big cities, so that wasn’t too hard. I just asked around a bit and followed the directions. Easy peasy. But you need this thing called the “Pledge of Mara.” I read somewhere that it’s a one-time use item, so you gotta make it count.

Getting the Pledge Ready
- I opened up my inventory and there it was, the Pledge of Mara.
- Next, I dragged it to my quickslot menu. This is important because you need to activate it later.
The Actual Ritual
Now, for the main event. I had my buddy standing with me at the Shrine. We were both a bit confused at first, but then we figured it out.
- I made sure my character was looking right at my friend’s character in the game.
- Then, I hit the quickslot button where I had put the Pledge.
- The game prompted some kind of ritual animation, and boom, we were hitched!
But here’s a heads-up: if you and your friend are at the Shrine and nothing’s happening, try logging out and back in. We had to do that, and it worked. Also, you both need some space in your inventory. I guess that’s where the virtual rings go or something, haha.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, the whole process was a bit clunky, but we got it done. It’s a cool feature, and it gives you and your partner some in-game benefits, like an experience boost when you play together. If you’re into that, it’s worth checking out. Plus, it’s a fun little story to tell. And remember folks, you need to have some inventory space available for the process to complete. I learned it the hard way, trust me.
Anyway, that’s my experience with getting married at the Shrine of Mara in Elder Scrolls Online. Hope this helps someone out there!
