Okay, so I’ve been messing around with League of Legends, right? And I wanted to figure out this whole “duo restrictions” thing. It’s kinda confusing, but I think I’ve got it sorted. So, let me tell you what I went through.
First off, I tried to jump into a ranked game with my buddy. We usually play together, but this time, the game just wouldn’t let us queue up. We were like, “What the heck is going on?” We both checked our accounts and neither of us had done anything wrong. So we start to investigate.

So, I did a little digging. Turns out, there are these things called “ranked restrictions.” Apparently, if you’ve been naughty and gone against the game’s code of conduct one too many times, they slap you with these restrictions. This means you can’t play ranked until you play some other game modes and behave yourself for a few games. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta keep the ranked games clean of those toxic players. So, I made sure I wasn’t one of those naughty people.
- Played some games solo and made sure to be a good sport.
- Stayed away from any heated chat moments.
- Followed the rules, you know, the usual.
Next, I found out that you can only play with people who are close to your rank. I was reading how the ranking system is like a big mountain range, with different peaks to climb. You can’t just team up with someone way higher or lower than you. This one was a bit of a bummer ’cause my friend and I had a bit of a rank gap.
I learned that they changed the rules in 2024. Now, you can only duo with someone within one tier of your own rank. So, if you’re in Gold, your duo buddy has to be in Silver, Gold, or Platinum. No more boosting, I guess! We gotta keep it fair for the solo players.
Playing Solo at the Top
Then, there’s this thing for the really high-ranked players. If you’re in Master, Grandmaster, or Challenger, you can only play solo. No duos allowed up there. I guess it’s to keep things super competitive at the top. So, I didn’t have to worry about this one, but still, it’s good to know.
After figuring all this out, I realized why my friend and I couldn’t queue up. We’re not exactly within one tier of each other, rank-wise. It is a bit of a bummer, but hey, rules are rules. We ended up playing some normal games instead and still had a blast. And for my solo ranked grind, I made sure to keep my behavior in check to avoid any restrictions. All in all, it was a good learning experience. Now I know how the whole duo thing works in League. If you’re planning to duo, check your ranks and make sure you’re not breaking any rules!
