Alright, so I’ve been playing a ton of Animal Crossing: New Horizons lately. I mean, who hasn’t, right? It’s been my go-to chill-out game after a long day. I was really trying to get this one villager, Rizzo, a cranky mouse, to move to my island.
First, I had to find him. I spent hours hopping from one mystery island to another using Nook Miles Tickets. You know the drill. It’s always a gamble what villager you’ll run into. I saw so many villagers I was not interested in, some of them over and over again, but no Rizzo!

I was stubborn, though. I did a little digging online and found out that his name is inspired by Rizzo the Rat from The Muppets, how cool is that? I got it in my head that I absolutely needed him on my island. Some players were talking about his catchphrase, “squee” which apparently comes from squeak, I was like, “I have to see this for myself.”
Then it finally happened! On my, like, 20th island or something, there he was! This little gray mouse with a purple cloak. I immediately started talking to him. Kept at it until he agreed to move to my island.
Setting Up His Home
Once Rizzo was on my island, I had to get his house set up. I wanted it to be perfect. I remembered reading somewhere that he likes the Long pleather coat and the Viking top, and his favorite colors are black and purple. Also, that Kerokerokeroppi lantern is a good gift for him. So, I made sure to gift him those things and put them in his house.
- I crafted a bunch of furniture, mostly dark-colored stuff to match his vibe.
- I also laid out a nice little yard for him with some spooky-looking decorations. I think I will try inviting him to a photo shoot on Harvey’s island one day, just to see what that would be like.
- I saw somewhere that when you reach a high level of friendship, they will gift you their photo. I want that.
Now, Rizzo’s been on my island for a while now. And you know what? He’s actually pretty cool. He’s always wandering around, grumbling about stuff, but in a funny way. I learned that he is the eldest of 8 kids, which somehow makes sense with his personality. I make it a point to talk to him every day and give him gifts. I’m determined to get his photo, which apparently he’ll give you when you become really good friends. It’s going to take a while, but I’m patient.
So, yeah, that’s my Rizzo story. It was a bit of a grind to get him, but totally worth it. It’s funny how attached you can get to these little virtual animals. If you’re playing Animal Crossing, I definitely recommend trying to get Rizzo. He adds a fun, grumpy dynamic to the island life.
