Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with Super Mario 64 on my Switch. I grabbed my console, and the first thing I noticed was that I needed to use a full controller setup – you know, either both Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller. I couldn’t just use a single Joy-Con like with some other games.
Once I got that sorted, I started playing. I quickly remembered the basic controls. The A button is your go-to for jumping, which is pretty much the core of Mario’s moves. When I was running around as Mario, pressing the A button made him jump, and if I was in the air, it made him kick. It felt so familiar, just like the good old days.

Detailed Movements
- Jumping: Press the A button. This is the most basic and essential move.
- Punching: This is done by pressing the B button. It’s useful for taking out enemies.
- Crouching: To crouch, I pressed the Z button. It’s handy for getting into tight spots or dodging.
- Moving Around: The control stick is what you use to move Mario around the world.
I started exploring and experimented with a few different moves. I could make Mario jump and kick enemies, which was pretty fun. I also tried out the crouch move by hitting the Z button. The control stick was for moving around, and I got used to that pretty quickly.
One thing that caught my attention was the camera controls. The C buttons – C-Left, C-Up, C-Right, and C-Down – allowed me to rotate the camera and zoom in and out. This was super helpful for getting a better view of the environment, especially in those tricky platforming sections.
After messing around with the controls for a while, I felt like I had a good grasp of how to play. It was a blast revisiting this classic game and rediscovering all the fun moves and abilities. Playing Super Mario 64 on the Switch brought back so many memories, and I’m excited to dive deeper into the game and see what other adventures await!
