Okay, so, today I’m gonna share something about “FGC terminology”. First off, I got interested in fighting games a while back. Games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, you name it. But I gotta admit, I was a total noob.
I jumped into some online matches and got my butt kicked. Not just that, I couldn’t even understand what people were saying in the forums! They talked about QCF, BNB, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I felt like I was in a different world. I didn’t know any of these words people kept using! So, I decided I had to get my act together.

Start Learning
I started digging around. First, I found out that FGC stands for “Fighting Game Community”. That’s basically everyone who’s into these games. Then, I started seeing all these terms and acronyms.
So, I went online and found this glossary. This thing was huge! It had over 650 terms with videos and even translations. I could search by term or game, which was pretty handy.
- QCF: This one kept popping up. Turns out it means “Quarter-Circle Forward”. It’s a common move in a lot of games.
- BNB: This one had me stumped for a bit. It stands for “Bread and Butter”. Basically, it’s your go-to combo.
- FGC: Fighting Game Community.
I started small, picked a game – let’s say Street Fighter – and focused on the basic stuff. There’s this move called a “Hadoken”, and to do it, you gotta do a QCF motion. I practiced that for hours, just that one move. I felt kinda dumb, but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
Then I started looking at combos, you know, the BNB stuff. Every character has their own set of moves, and finding out which ones work best together is a whole thing. It took me forever to get just one combo down, but man, it felt good when I finally did it in a real match.
Get Help
But just reading stuff wasn’t enough. I had to talk to people. So, I joined some forums and Discord servers. At first, I was just lurking, reading what others were saying. Then, I started asking questions, like, “Hey, what’s a good BNB combo for Ryu?” or “How do I do a QCF consistently?”
Some folks were super helpful. They gave me tips, shared their own experiences, and even played some matches with me. Others, well, they weren’t so nice. But you get that in any community, I guess. I tried to focus on the positive stuff.
Keep Practicing
It’s been a long road, and I’m still learning. I’m not gonna lie, I still get my butt kicked sometimes. But now, I can at least understand what’s going on. I can talk to other players, understand the strategies, and even come up with some of my own.
I’m nowhere near being a pro, but I’m not a total noob anymore either. It’s been a fun journey, and it all started with figuring out what all those crazy terms meant. I started to make a notebook to write down these terms. It was really helpful. I tried some beginner-friendly games like Fantasy Strike and Power Rangers. They were pretty fun and not too hard to get into. Mortal Kombat 11 was another one. That was pretty fun, and the moves were not too hard to pull off.
So yeah, that’s my story about diving into FGC terminology. It was tough, but totally worth it. Hope you guys find this helpful. If any of you are just starting out, don’t give up! It just takes time and a lot of practice. Keep grinding!
