Okay, so, I’ve been playing a ton of Animal Crossing: New Horizons lately, and I really wanted to get into the whole flower breeding thing. I decided to focus on hyacinths because, well, they’re just so pretty! I’m going to walk you through how I went about it, what worked, and what a pain it was.
First off, I had to get my hands on some hyacinths. I started by visiting other players’ islands, and I asked them to get some for me, and they were very glad to give me some. Eventually, I found some on a mystery island tour. I planted them on my island, made sure they were watered, and waited for them to multiply. Once I had a decent amount of red, white, and yellow ones, I felt ready to start the real work.

I read somewhere that to get hybrid colors, you have to plant the flowers diagonally from each other, leaving a space in between for the new flower to grow. Sounded easy enough, right? So, I rearranged my hyacinths. I put reds and yellows together, hoping for orange, and reds and whites together, hoping for pink. I even tried whites and whites for a chance at blue ones.
- Planting Pattern: I made sure to use a checkerboard pattern, which is apparently the way to go.
- Watering: Every. Single. Day. I made sure those flowers were watered. I even got a golden watering can at some point, which was pretty cool.
- Waiting: This was the hardest part. It felt like forever for those new colors to pop up.
After days, maybe even weeks, I finally started seeing some results. I got a bunch of orange hyacinths, which was awesome! Pink ones took a bit longer, but they eventually showed up too. The blue ones, though, were super stubborn. I had to keep replanting and waiting, but I did finally get a few.
Getting Purple Hyacinths
Now, here’s where it got really tricky. To get purple hyacinths, you supposedly need to breed two orange ones together. I was feeling pretty good about my orange hyacinths, so I planted a bunch of them in the same diagonal pattern and kept watering them religiously.
Honestly, I felt like giving up a few times. It took so long for a purple hyacinth to appear. But, let me tell you, when that first purple bud finally sprouted, it was such a rush! I was so stoked! Now, I’ve got a whole patch of them, and it’s honestly one of my favorite spots on my island.
So, yeah, that’s my hyacinth breeding story in Animal Crossing. It took a lot of patience and a bit of luck, but it was totally worth it. If you’re thinking about trying it, just be prepared to wait and keep those flowers watered! Good luck, and happy gardening!
