Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Madden 23 lately, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with Trey Lance. You know, the young quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys? I heard people talking about his rating in the game, so I decided to dive in and check it out myself.
First off, I booted up the game and went straight to the roster. I navigated to the Cowboys’ lineup, and there he was, Trey Lance. His overall rating? 74. Not bad, but definitely room for improvement, right? I mean, players like Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson were rated higher. But it got me thinking, how could I get this guy’s rating up? Could I turn him into a superstar?

I had heard that you can actually trade for him in Franchise mode and develop him. That sounded like a fun challenge. So, I started a new Franchise with a couple of buddies, and we decided to make a move for Lance. I ended up trading away Jalen Hurts and a late-round pick to get him. Some might say that’s a risky move, but I was feeling bold. Besides, I heard that Lance has a superstar development trait, which means he can improve quickly.
Once I had him on my team, I started playing some games. At first, he was a bit rough around the edges, as expected with that 74 rating. But I made sure to give him plenty of playing time, and I focused on plays that suited his strengths, like running the ball and making short, quick passes. I wanted to boost his confidence and get him in a rhythm.
- Game 1: We won, but it was a close one. Lance threw for about 200 yards and had one touchdown, but he also threw an interception. His rating went up by a point, though!
- Game 2: Another win! This time, Lance had over 250 passing yards and two touchdowns. No picks this game. His rating jumped up another two points.
- Game 3: We lost this one, but Lance still played pretty well. He had over 300 total yards, and only one mistake that the other team capitalized on. Even though we lost, his rating increased by one more.
After a few games, I started to see some real progress. Lance was getting more comfortable in the pocket, and his accuracy was improving. His rating was steadily climbing, too. It was awesome to see him develop right before my eyes. Now, the guy is 78. That’s a 4 point jump in just a few games. Pretty sweet, huh? It is kind of like real life, considering the guy is on a $5,310,714 cap hit and had a four-year $240 million extension.
I’m still working on getting Lance’s rating even higher, but it’s been a blast so far. It’s cool to see how the game reflects a player’s potential and how you can actually influence their development through your decisions. If you’re a Madden fan, I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s a fun way to test your skills as a GM and coach, and it’s always satisfying to see a young player blossom into a star, even if it’s just in a video game.
