Alright, let’s talk about this “Defensive Assist Strength” setting in NBA 2K24. I’ve been messing around with it, and I gotta say, it’s a tricky one.
So, picture this: I started off with the default setting, which is 50. They say it’s supposed to help you stick to your man on defense, predict their moves, all that jazz. But man, it felt way too aggressive for me. I’m trying to play some decent defense, and the game’s practically yanking me around the court. It felt like I wasn’t even in control sometimes. I move my character and the defensive assist strength suddenly makes my character move to another place, it drives me crazy!

Here’s what I did:
-
First, I cranked it down to 0. Figured, “Hey, I’m a pretty good defender, I don’t need this thing holding my hand.” And you know what? It was better, in a way. I felt more in control, more responsible for my own success or failure on defense. But it was tough, too. You really gotta be on your toes, anticipate every move, or you’re getting blown by. And you must have a good grasp of defense.
-
Then, I bumped it up to around 15. This felt like a decent middle ground. It gave me a little nudge in the right direction, without feeling like it was taking over. I could still make my own reads, but it helped cover up some of my mistakes. It’s like training wheels, but not too restrictive.
-
During this time, I tried lots of different values, like 5, 10, 20, 35, 40, and so on. Finally, I found that 15 is a suitable number for me. I felt good when I set this number.
-
Meanwhile, I also played around with the matchups. I’d put my best defender on their point guard, try to lock him down, force him to pass. You know, basic defensive strategy stuff. I hit R1 and X to switch up matchups and tried to play airtight defense. I tried my best to get the opponent in the shooting slump and forced the point guard to pass the ball to somebody else.
-
And of course, I experimented with different defensive badges. Clamps, Challenger, Glove, those are all super helpful for perimeter defense. ‘Rim Protector’ increases your ability to block shots. Right Stick Ripper helped me strip the ball. Fast Feet was important to stay in front of my man. I tried my best to find a good combination of these badges to see which one is more practical.
My two cents:
It really depends on your skill level and how you like to play. If you’re a defensive god, go ahead and turn it off. If you’re just okay, maybe keep it low. But I wouldn’t recommend going too high, or you’ll be fighting the game more than you’re fighting your opponent. My friend told me that he got his defensive assist on 90 and he never missed a block. I don’t believe it. That’s just some exaggerated nonsense.
It’s all about finding that sweet spot where it helps you without hindering you. Keep practicing, keep experimenting, and you’ll figure out what works best for you. Now I set this value to 15 and I feel great about it. Good luck!
