Alright, folks, gather ’round, let me tell you about my time with MK3, specifically with my boy Kabal. So, I’ve been a Mortal Kombat fan since I was a kid, and when I got my hands on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, I was pumped to try out all the fighters. Kabal caught my eye with his freaky look and those hook swords.
I jumped straight into the game, picked Kabal, and started mashing buttons. Let me tell you, I got my butt kicked. Bad. But, I’m not one to give up easily, so I started digging around, trying to find some tips and tricks. Turns out, Kabal is one of the top-tier characters in UMK3. Who knew, right?

First things first, I needed to learn his basic moves. I spent hours in practice mode, just getting a feel for his punches and kicks. I discovered that his low kicks are pretty quick, and his high punches have decent reach. I also found out that you can do a cool downward high punch by pressing down and the high punch button at the same time.
Combo Time
Once I got the basics down, I moved on to combos. This is where Kabal really shines. I found a couple of simple combos that helped me out a lot. Here’s what I learned:
- Combo 1: Low Kick, Low Kick, High Punch, High Punch. This one’s easy to pull off and does a decent chunk of damage.
- Combo 2: Low Kick, Low Kick, High Punch, High Punch, Down + High Punch. It’s similar to the first one but ends with that downward high punch for extra style points.
I practiced these combos over and over until they became second nature. I was starting to feel like a real Kabal pro. But there’s more to him than just combos.
Special Moves and Other Tricks
Kabal’s got some cool special moves, too. His spin dash is great for closing the distance and catching opponents off guard. I also found out that he’s got a projectile, which is handy for keeping opponents at bay. I tried to use these special moves to mix things up and keep my opponents guessing.
One thing I learned the hard way is that you need to be brave with Kabal. He’s a rush-down character, which means you need to get up close and personal. I found that running up to opponents and going for combos was the way to go. If they blocked, I’d jump back and try a flying kick to keep the pressure on.
No Blocking for Babalities!
Oh, and here’s a fun little tidbit I picked up: if you want to do a Babality, you can’t block at all during the final round. You can press the block button, but if you actually block an attack, no Babality for you. I found this out the hard way after winning a match and trying to turn my opponent into a baby, only to be disappointed. This is a tricky one to master!
So, that’s my Kabal journey in a nutshell. It took a lot of practice, a lot of getting my butt kicked, and a lot of button mashing, but I finally got the hang of him. He’s a fun character to play, and if you put in the time, you can become a real Kabal master. Just remember to be brave, learn those combos, and don’t block if you want to see that baby!
