Okay, so today I wanna talk about getting those moves down for Kabal in Mortal Kombat 3. This ain’t my first rodeo with fighting games, but MK3? That’s a whole different beast. I spent a good chunk of my evening trying to get Kabal’s moves right, and boy, was it a trip.
First off, I fired up the game and picked Kabal. I mean, the dude looks cool with that mask and those hookswords. I started with the basics, just moving him around the screen, getting a feel for his walk speed and such. Then I tried some simple punches and kicks. Nothing fancy, just trying to see how responsive the controls were.

Then came the special moves. I tried that Gas Blast, which is supposed to be Back, Back, High Punch. I must’ve messed it up like a dozen times. I kept getting a regular high punch. I finally got it down, though, but it wasn’t easy to do it again later.
- Gas Blast: Back, Back, High Punch
- Spinning Blade: Back, Back, Low Kick
- Eye Laser: Forward, Forward, High Kick
Next, I wanted to pull off his Spinning Blade move. The combo was listed as Back, Back, Low Kick. This one was even trickier. I kept jumping instead of spinning. I think my timing was off. I spent a good 20 minutes just trying to get this one move down. I eventually landed it a few times, but it’s not consistent yet.
The Real Challenge
The real challenge was trying to string these moves together into combos. I saw some guides online that mentioned stuff like “Low Kick, Low Kick, High Punch, High Punch, Down + High Punch.” I tried that sequence, but it was tough. I’d either miss a hit or accidentally trigger a special move. It was a mess. I realized that I needed to practice more, to get the timing and the rhythm just right. It is not that simple.
I also tried to perform an Animality. The guide I saw said to hold Run and tap Down, Down during the “Finish Him/Her” screen. I tried it a few times, but nothing happened. Maybe I wasn’t fast enough, or maybe I needed to be at a specific distance. I’ll have to try that again.
After a couple of hours, I was starting to get the hang of it, but I was also getting pretty frustrated. Those online guides make it sound so easy, but it’s a whole different story when you’re actually playing. There are so many things to keep in mind, like your opponent’s moves, your spacing, and your timing. It’s a lot to juggle.
By the end of the night, I was exhausted but also kinda satisfied. I managed to pull off a few cool combos and even won a couple of matches. But I know I’ve got a long way to go. Mastering Kabal, or any character in MK3, is gonna take time and a lot of practice. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? It’s all about the grind and the feeling you get when you finally nail that perfect combo. I need to work on my execution. It’s not just about knowing the moves, but actually being able to pull them off when it counts. But I’m not giving up. I’ll be back in the game tomorrow, trying to get better. Maybe I’ll even figure out that Animality. Who knows?
It’s clear I need more practice. A lot more. But that’s okay. That’s part of the journey. You gotta put in the time if you wanna get good. And honestly, that’s what makes it fun. The challenge, the improvement, the satisfaction of landing a combo you’ve been practicing for hours. It’s all worth it.
So, yeah, that was my night with Kabal in Mortal Kombat 3. A lot of button-mashing, a lot of frustration, but also a lot of fun. I’ll keep at it, and maybe one day I’ll be able to hold my own against those seasoned MK players. Until then, it’s back to the training mode for me. Wish me luck!
