Hey there, honey! You wanna hear about that Magic the Gathering thing in Chicago? That big card game thing? My grandson, bless his heart, he’s all into it. Says it’s a big deal, this MagicCon: Chicago. Sounds like a hootenanny to me!
Magic the Gathering in Chicago
So, this Magic the Gathering convention in Chicago, it’s like a big party for them card players. They got all sorts of things going on. They even got some big shots playing, making money off it, can you believe it? They call it a “Pro Tour” or somethin’. Pro Tour Murders at Karlov Manor, that what he said. Big words for a card game, I reckon!

This whole shebang is happening February 23-25, 2024. That’s what the young’uns told me. Gotta mark your calendars, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing. Seems like a long time to play cards, but what do I know?
Where’s This Magic Thing Anyway?
Now, where’s this shindig happening? Well, it’s at some fancy place called McCormick Place, Lakeside Center. Sounds important, don’t it? Big city stuff. My grandson, he says it’s where all the big events are in the Midwest. He said something about the “windy city.” That must be Chicago. They call Chicago the windy city. This MagicCon: Chicago is going to be there. Big place for a big card game, I suppose.
They got all kind of card games there. Not just the one my grandson plays. They even had one with over 7,000 people one time! Can you imagine that many folks in one place for cards? In Las Vegas, that was. Big place, Las Vegas. They even had a smaller one with 4,500, still a lot if you ask me.

They say this MagicCon: Chicago is gonna be a big one too. Got another one of them Pro Tours, the “Pro Tour Aetherdrift.” Sounds like somethin’ out of one of them space movies. They’re giving away a lot of money, too. Half a million dollars! I can’t get it right, I can’t even imagine that kind of money. Can you believe that for playing a game? Imagine what you could do with all that cash! Lordy!
What’s So Special About This Magic Thing?
Well, my grandson, he tried to explain it to me. It’s a game, see? But it’s a big deal. Lots of folks like it. They trade cards, they play, they dress up… It’s a whole world, he says. Like a community. They all get together and share this thing they like. I guess it’s like our quilting circle, but with dragons and wizards and whatnot.
They got all sorts of things planned for this MagicCon: Chicago. Panels, they call ’em. Folks talking about the game, I reckon. And they got artists there, drawing pictures and such. And you can buy all sorts of things related to the game. Cards, of course, but also clothes and toys and I don’t know what all.
Is This Magic Thing Worth Going To?
Well, now, that depends. If you’re like my grandson, and you love this Magic the Gathering thing, then I reckon it’s the place to be. You get to meet other folks who like it, see all the new cards, maybe even win some money if you’re good enough. It’s like a big party for them card game folks.
If you ain’t into it, well, it might not be your cup of tea. But hey, who am I to judge? If it makes you happy, that’s all that matters. My grandson, he’s happy as a clam going to these things. And that makes me happy, too.
MagicCon in Other Places
They have another one of these things. It’s called MagicCon: Las Vegas. They held it at the Las Vegas Convention Center. That must be a big place, too. They say Las Vegas is all lights and fun. Maybe I’ll go someday. But for now, this Chicago thing, that’s what everyone’s talking about. It seems like this Magic the Gathering is getting bigger and bigger. More people are playing it.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this Magic the Gathering convention in Chicago. It’s a big deal for the folks who like that game. Lots of people, lots of cards, lots of money. Sounds like a real hootenanny to me! I hope you understand this MagicCon: Chicago better now. It’s a big thing, this Magic the Gathering.
