This year, that Halloween, my boy, he told me about these here lol skins. He’s always on that computer, click-clack, click-clack. Says it’s a game, League of Legends or somethin’. Anyways, he was all excited about these Halloween costumes, called ’em skins. Said they make the characters in the game look different. Sounds silly to me, but whatever keeps him outta trouble, I guess.
He showed me some pictures, and some of ’em, well, they were somethin’ else. One was this lady, all purple and spooky. Said she’s called Bewitching Elise. She’s got spiders with her, but for Halloween, they turn ’em into pumpkins! Can you believe that? Pumpkins! Reminds me of when we used to carve pumpkins back when I was a girl. We’d put a candle inside, make ’em all glowy. Good times, good times.

Then there were these other ones, called Fright Night skins. Now those were somethin’ to see. All dark and scary lookin’. I told him, “Boy, you’re gonna give yourself nightmares with that stuff!” He just laughed. Kids these days, they like all that spooky stuff, I reckon. Back in my day, we’d tell ghost stories, but nothin’ like this. These are real colorful, though. I’ll give ’em that.
He said you gotta buy these things, these lol skins Halloween things. Spend real money on ’em. I told him, “You’re spendin’ your money on what now? Pictures on a computer?” He said it’s not just pictures, it’s like dressin’ up your game character. I don’t get it, but young folks and their newfangled technology, what can ya do? He mentioned somethin’ about these “Chromas” things comin’ back for some of the Halloween skins. He said they change the colors. This whole thing is wild to me.
There were more, too. He showed me some called Death Sworn and Zombie Slayer. Just the names alone give me the willies! I told him, “You be careful with all that violent stuff.” He said it’s just a game, Ma, just a game. I hope he’s right. I don’t want him gettin’ any funny ideas in his head from playin’ these games with all these monsters and spooky things. I reckon these games and their lol Halloween skins are just gettin’ more and more real lookin’ every year, though.
He keeps goin’ on about how many Halloween skins there are. Says there’s a whole bunch, more than you can shake a stick at. He showed me a whole list. Some were old, some were new. He said some are the “freshest ones”. What does that even mean? They ain’t fruit, are they? I swear, these kids and their slang. It’s all about those lol skins Halloween things. They got all sorts of colors, bright ones, dark ones. Like a rainbow, but a spooky one. Kids love these things.
I still don’t understand why he’s so excited about these lol skins. It’s just pictures on a computer screen. But he says it’s fun, and it makes the game more excitin’. I guess as long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters. And it ain’t like he’s out there gettin’ into real trouble. He’s just here at home, playin’ his game, dressin’ up his little characters in their Halloween costumes. These lol skins Halloween things are somethin’ else.
He was sayin’ somethin’ about how these Halloween skins, they only come around once a year, around Halloween time, naturally. Makes ’em special, I suppose. Like how we only get certain fruits in certain seasons. You gotta get ’em while you can, I guess. He’s always lookin’ forward to this time of year so he can see all the new lol skins Halloween stuff.
I asked him, “Why do they call them skins?” He said it’s like a new layer you put on the character. Like givin’ them a new outfit. Or like puttin’ a new skin on ’em, I suppose. Hence the name. Makes a little sense, I guess. But still sounds mighty strange to this old lady. It’s all about these lol Halloween skins with these young folks.
Well, I gotta go. My stories are probably borin’ you to tears. Just an old lady ramblin’ on about things she don’t understand. But that’s what happens when your grandson is all into these computer games and these lol skins. You hear all about it, whether you want to or not! And those lol skins Halloween costumes are all the rage now.
