Okay, so I’ve been trying to get purple roses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for like, forever. It’s one of those things that seems simple enough, but the flower breeding in this game can be a real pain. I finally cracked the code, though, and let me tell you, it was a journey!
Getting Started with Hybrid Reds
First things first, you can’t just magically get purple roses. You gotta work your way up there. And it all starts with red roses. But not just any red roses, we need special “hybrid” red roses.

To create these, I planted some white roses, that i bought the seeds at Nook’s Cranny, in checkerboard and wait them to grow up. It’s a long process but I finally got it.
To get those hybrid reds, I did the following:
- Planted white roses diagonally from each other, leaving space in between.
- Watered them every single day. Gotta keep those flowers happy!
- Waited. And waited. This part took a while, seriously. Patience is key!
Eventually, some of those white roses started producing red roses. Some of them are regular reds (which I just tossed), and some are the special hybrid reds. It’s hard to tell the difference visually, which is super annoying.
The Long Road to Purple
Then, I took those hybrid red roses and did these all over again! I got a large field, and start my planting!
- I planted those hybrid reds diagonally from each other, just like I did with the whites.
- More watering! Every. Single. Day.
- More waiting! This felt even longer than the first stage. I almost gave up a few times.
I kept doing that and my island becomes full of red roses!
And you need to keep going on for several days, at least, and I still have to keep my finger crossed!
Finally, Purple!
Then, one glorious morning, I walked out of my house and BAM! There it was. A single, beautiful, purple rose. I almost cried. Seriously. It was such a relief after all that work.
After I got that first purple, I moved it to its own little spot, so now It can keep cloning itself, and I will got a large area of purple roses!
So, that’s my purple rose saga. It’s a grind, for sure, but totally worth it in the end. If you’re struggling, just keep at it! You’ll get there eventually. Good luck, and happy gardening!
