Okay, so I wanted to figure out which Magic: The Gathering cards are the priciest in the Standard format right now. I’ve been getting back into the game, and man, some of these prices are wild!
First, I fired up my web browser. I figured the best place to start was just to, you know, look it up! I was going to find out somehow the recent information about it.

Digging Through Price Lists
I spent a good chunk of time looking at different websites. It’s kind of a pain because prices change all the time, and you never really know for sure. I started by looking at the usual suspects and checking out their Standard card sections.
I made myself a little list as I went, jotting down anything that seemed to be over, say, $20. I mean, I’m not made of money, and I wanted to know what the really expensive stuff was.
- I noted the card name, obviously.
- I wrote down the set it was from, just to keep things straight.
- I tried to find a few different prices, just to get an average.
It was kind of messy, to be honest. One site would have one price, another would have something totally different. I quickly realised I had to pick a website and try to stick with it.
After all that digging, I had a pretty good idea of the top contenders. It’s always those powerful mythic rares and the really popular lands, you know?
So, that’s how I went about it. It wasn’t super scientific, but it gave me a good enough idea of what’s going on with the high-end Standard card market. I might need to sell a kidney if I want to build some of these decks…
