Alright, so the other day I was trying to get better at Madden 24, specifically working on my passing game. I kept messing up those touch passes, you know, the ones that need that perfect arc to get over the linebacker but before the safety? Yeah, those were killing me. So, I decided to buckle down and figure it out.
First, I jumped into practice mode. No pressure, just me, the quarterback, and a bunch of receivers. I figured this was the best way to get a feel for the controls without worrying about getting sacked every two seconds.

I started experimenting with the controller. I know, I know, sounds basic, but I needed to get the timing down. The game says you gotta just “tap” the receiver button, but my “taps” were all over the place. Some were too short, resulting in these wimpy bullet passes, others were too long, which launched the ball into orbit.
- Short press = bullet pass. Great for short, quick throws, but useless for a touch pass.
- Long press = lob pass. Gets the ball way up there, but it’s slow and easily intercepted.
- “Just right” press = The key,the middle zone, not too short and not too long,That’s gold.
After about, I don’t know, maybe 30 minutes of just throwing passes, I started to get a rhythm. It’s really about finding that sweet spot. It’s not a super quick tap, but it’s definitely not a full-on hold either. It is a fast and firm press, but not hold.
I focused on the release. The tricky part is holding the receiver button just a bit longer, and release it quickly. That’s what gives the ball that nice arc. Once I focused, It’s better than before.
Then I started practicing with different receivers. Each receiver button might feel slightly different, so you gotta get used to them all. Plus, different routes require different types of touch passes. A deep corner route needs a different touch than a quick out to the sideline.
I moved on to actual gameplay. I won’t lie, I threw a few interceptions at first. Old habits die hard, and I kept reverting to those bullet passes. But, I stuck with it, and slowly but surely, I started completing more touch passes. Seeing that ball float perfectly over the defender and into my receiver’s hands? Man, that’s a good feeling.
So, to recap, it’s all about that gentle, but not too gentle, press and quick release of the receiver button. Practice mode is your friend, and don’t be afraid to experiment. It takes time, but once you get the hang of it, your passing game will be on a whole new level.
