Okay, so I’ve been wanting to create a personalized “Top Games” list for a while now. I mean, there are tons of those “Top 100” lists out there, but they never quite match my tastes, you know? So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make my own darn list!
Getting Started
First, I brainstormed. Just a messy, free-for-all list of games that popped into my head. I didn’t worry about order or anything, just getting them down. I grabbed a notepad on my desk, and start scribbling down game names that jumped into my head. Think of it as gathering all the ingredients for a cake before you even look at the recipe.

The Rough List
After the brain dump, I had this HUGE, sprawling list. Way too many games. It was time to be brutal and start cutting. This was tough, like choosing your favorite child… if your children were video games. I considered factors to narrow down games.
- Replayability: Did I keep coming back to this game?
- Impact: Did the game leave a lasting impression on me?
- Nostalgia: Okay, I admit, some games made it higher just because they were a big part of my childhood.
- Fun Factor: Let’s face it, some are good, but others are just a blast.
With all this, I started making my ratings, It was a long process of shifting, prioritizing, and some more.
The Final Cut
I went through at least three or four revisions. Each time, I’d re-evaluate, move things around, and agonize over whether a game deserved to be in a higher spot or knocked down a few pegs. Finally I got 10 games on my list!
Polishing It Up
I could have just stopped with the ordered list, but I wanted to add some short descriptions, sort of mini-reviews. I thought about adding images for each game, to spice the presentation up, it made it a bit special.
And that’s it! My very own, totally subjective, top games list. It was actually a lot of fun to go through this process, and it really made me think about what I value in video games. It’s not perfect, and I’m sure I’ll tweak it again in the future, but for now, it’s my list, and that’s what counts!
