Okay, so I’ve been getting absolutely wrecked by Lissandra in mid lane lately. It felt like no matter what I did, she’d just freeze me, burst me down, and I’d be staring at a gray screen. So, I decided to buckle down and figure out how to actually deal with this icy witch.
My Struggle and Research
First, I tried just playing my usual champs, you know, the ones I’m comfortable with. Big mistake. Zed? Nope. Yasuo? Forget about it. She just completely shuts down any of those all-in attempts. I was starting to feel hopeless.

Then I spent a good chunk of time watching replays, pro games, anything I could find to see how other people handled her. I started noticing some patterns. Certain champs seemed to do better, and specific playstyles were more effective.
Experimenting with Counter Picks
I started experimenting. My first thought? Gotta go long range. I thought, Okay, maybe someone like Xerath or Vel’Koz. The goal was just to poke her from a safe distance, farm up, and avoid any close-range engagements.
- Xerath: The range was great, I could clear waves, and that’s good. But if she ever got close with her E (Glacial Path), I was still pretty much toast.
- Vel’Koz: Same issue with Xerath. The range is useful, but one good engage and you dead.
I’ve read from the internet, that’s good to counter Lissandra with champions which have:
- Mobility
- Long Range
- Crowd Control (CC)
So I’ve considered those factors, and I try these champions.
Then, I tried going for some champs with a bit more mobility and sustain.
- Kassadin: His early game is weak, and he gets bullied pre-6. It was tough.
- Fizz: This started to feel a bit better. I could use his Playful/Trickster (E) to dodge her Q (Ice Shard) and sometimes even her W (Ring of Frost). But, it was still really skill-dependent, and one mistake meant death.
Finding My (Current) Solution
Finally, after a lot of trial and error, I think I’ve found something that’s working for me (at least for now!). It’s not a single champion, but more of a strategy:
- Early Game Focus: I realized I needed to survive the early laning phase. That meant giving up some CS, playing super safe, and just trying not to die. It’s boring, but necessary.
- Banshee’s Veil/QSS: It is so annoying when facing Lissandra, so I will have to use items for reducing CC.
- Calling for Ganks: Lissandra is pretty immobile before she gets her E. So, I started pinging my jungler like crazy for early ganks. Even if we didn’t get a kill, just forcing her to back off gave me some breathing room.
- Roaming: Once I got a little bit of an advantage, or even just hit level 6, I started looking for roams. Lissandra isn’t the best roamer, so I could often get advantages in other lanes.
It’s not perfect, and I’m still learning, but this approach has made the matchup way less frustrating. It’s all about patience, smart itemization, and playing to your team’s strengths. If you have any advice for me, just tell me. I am still learning.
