Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the Netherwing Drake for a while now, specifically the one with the black scales. I finally decided to buckle down and go for it. Here’s how it all went down, from zero to mount.
Getting Started: Hitting up Shadowmoon Valley
First things first, I headed over to Shadowmoon Valley. I remembered this place, the quests, and the reputation grind. Not gonna lie, it felt a little daunting at first, but I was determined.

Befriending the Netherwing: The Grind Begins
I started picking up quests from the Netherwing folks. It’s all about doing dailies, and honestly, it’s a bit of a slog. Lots of running around, killing stuff, collecting things. Pretty standard MMO stuff, you know?
- Daily Quests: These are your bread and butter. They’re repetitive, but they’re the main way to earn reputation.
- Finding Eggs: I also kept my eyes peeled for Netherwing Eggs. These give a nice little chunk of rep, and they’re scattered all over the place. I actually found a few in some pretty sneaky spots.
The Long Haul: Reaching Exalted
I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, this took a while. It was days of doing the same quests over and over. But, I just kept at it, chipping away at that reputation bar. I’d log in, do my dailies, maybe hunt for a few eggs, and log out. Rinse and repeat.
Choosing My Drake: Black Scales, Here I Come!
Finally, FINALLY, I hit Exalted! It felt so good to see that reputation bar maxed out. I went straight to the vendor and started browsing the drakes. There were a few different colors, but I knew what I wanted. I picked out the black-scaled one, paid my gold, and boom! I had my Netherwing Drake.
Taking to the Skies: The Payoff
Mounting up on that drake for the first time was awesome. It just looks so cool, especially with those black scales. Soaring around Shadowmoon Valley, feeling like a total badass, it was all worth it. All that grinding, all those dailies… totally paid off.
So if you’re after the Grotto Netherwing Drake just do it and do the hard work, it will be worth it.
