Alright, guys, so I’ve been diving deep into the comic book collecting world lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride! Today, I wanted to share my little adventure trying to figure out the price of Deadpool’s first appearance.
The Hunt Begins
I started, where else, but the internet. Just typing in “Deadpool first appearance price” gave me tons of stuff to sort through.

I quickly learned that Deadpool first popped up in New Mutants #98. Okay, cool, that’s step one.
Digging Through Listings
I spent a couple of hours checking out a lot online shops. I saw a bunch of options.
- Some were graded by places, which, from what I gather, means they’re officially checked for quality and condition. Those were WAY more expensive.
- Others were “raw” copies, meaning just the comic itself, no fancy case or rating. These were all over the place in terms of price.
Condition is King
This is where things got tricky. It’s all about the condition of the comic, man. Is it beat up? Does it have creases? Are the pages yellow? All that stuff matters.
I looked at so many pictures of comics, trying to compare them, like, is THAT a big crease, or just a small one? My eyes started to hurt, seriously!
Price Range Rollercoaster
I saw prices from like a few hundred bucks for a really worn-out copy to thousands for one that looked like it just came off the printing press. It was nuts!
My Takeaway
What I learned is, finding the “price” isn’t easy. It’s more like a “price range”. And that range depends on:
- Condition: Mint condition equals big bucks.
- Grading: If it’s graded by pros, it’s gonna cost more.
- Where you buy it: Different sellers, different prices.
After spending that time, I had a good idea of what to expect. I am going to keep researching, keep looking, and eventually, I’ll snag my own copy of New Mutants #98. Wish me luck!
