Okay, so I’ve been grinding ranked in League lately, and let me tell you, the struggle is real. I was so close to getting into Gold, but then I hit a losing streak. You know how it is – those games where your team just… doesn’t click. It happens. But I was worried, because I was sitting at 0 LP in Silver 1. One more loss and I’d be back in Silver 2. And nobody wants that, right?
So I started looking into this thing called the “demotion shield.” I’d heard about it before, but I never really understood how it worked. Basically, it’s like a safety net that prevents you from dropping down a division right after you promote. I needed to figure out how long this thing would protect me.

I hit up the League website, you know, the official support pages. And man, they were not very helpful, at least not for this specific question. The info was all general and vague. After that, I started digging around on forums and stuff. Lots of people talking about it, but it was mostly just theories and guesses. Some people said the shield lasts for 3 games, some said 10. No one seemed to know for sure.
My Experiment
So I thought, “Fine, I’ll just figure it out myself.” I decided to keep playing ranked, even though I was at 0 LP. It was risky, but I figured it was the only way to get a definitive answer. And guess what? I lost. But, I didn’t get demoted! I was still at 0 LP in Silver 1.
- Game 1 after reaching 0 LP: Lost, still at 0 LP in Silver 1.
I played another one. Lost again. Still no demotion. Now I was getting somewhere.
- Game 2 after reaching 0 LP: Lost, still at 0 LP in Silver 1.
Then, I played a third game. And yep, you guessed it, I lost that one too. Finally, I got the dreaded demotion message. Back to Silver 2, baby!
- Game 3 after reaching 0 LP: Lost, demoted to Silver 2.
What I Learned
So, based on my little experiment, it seems like the demotion shield in League protects you for about two losses after you hit 0 LP in a division. Of course, this is just my experience, and it’s possible that it could be different for other people or in other situations. But, at least for me, that’s how it went down. I was hoping for more than two games, and it feels like it should be more, but it is what it is. It’s better than nothing I guess. Hopefully, this info helps someone out there who’s also trying to climb the ranked ladder. Good luck, summoners!
