Okay, here is a blog post about the “League of Legends demotion shield” based on my experience, following all your requirements:
So, I was grinding ranked in League of Legends the other day, you know, trying to climb that ladder. I was doing pretty okay, hovering around Gold IV, feeling good about my progress. But then, bam! A losing streak hit me like a truck. I dropped a few games, no big deal, happens to the best of us, right? But then I started to get a bit worried. I was at 0 LP, and another loss meant I was going to get demoted back to Silver I.

That’s when I remembered something called the “demotion shield.” I’d heard about it before, but never really paid much attention to it. Basically, it’s this thing that protects you from getting demoted immediately after reaching a new division. So, I thought, “Cool, I should be safe, right?”
I jumped into another game, feeling a bit more confident. But guess what? I lost again! And you know what happened next? I got demoted. My precious demotion shield didn’t work, or maybe it wasn’t even there in the first place! I was so bummed out. I quickly looked up on the screen. There was a red triangle showing me that my demotion shield was about to expire. After a few bad games, I got to 0 LP and the icon changed to yellow. Then I lost again, and the demotion shield completely disappeared! And that’s when I dropped down a division.
Here is what I found out. After you get promoted to a new division, like going from Silver to Gold, you get this demotion shield. It’s supposed to last for about 10 games, and then the shield expires. Also, if your MMR (match making rating) drops more than a full tier below your current rank, you get a warning.
- You’ll see a warning in your profile when your shield is about to expire.
- A yellow warning icon means you have a few games left.
- A red warning icon means your shield is about to expire.
- After losing at 0 LP with no shield, you’ll drop down a division.
So yeah, that’s my story about the demotion shield in League of Legends. It’s a good thing to have, but don’t rely on it too much. Keep an eye on your LP, and if you see that warning, play extra carefully! Don’t end up like me, losing a bunch of games and falling back down. Good luck out there on the Rift, summoners!
