Okay, so, I wanted to get into those Tall Tales in Sea of Thieves, right? I heard they’re pretty cool, like, actual story missions in a game that’s usually just about sailing around and being a pirate. So I did some digging, and here’s how I got them unlocked and started playing.
Find the Tall Tales Books
First thing I had to do was actually find where to start these things. Turns out, they’re not just in your quest inventory or anything. You gotta find these special books in the game world. Most of them are pretty easy to spot, once you know where to look. Like, I found one right next to the Mysterious Stranger in the tavern – that’s the guy who gives you Athena quests, you can’t miss him.

- Shores of Gold: This one’s in any tavern, right by the Mysterious Stranger. Just look for a book next to him, can’t miss it.
- The Cursed Rogue: You find this one at the Order of Souls tent on any outpost.
- The Legendary Storyteller: Head over to the Ancient Spire Outpost, go to the north side of the island, and find the book on the wreckage of the book near the campfire.
- Stars of a Thief: North Star Seapost. Look on the dock by the shopkeeper.
- Wild Rose: This one is at the Order of Souls.
- The Art of the Trickster: Found it on Plunder Valley, up by the big eagle statue at the top of the island.
- The Fate of the Morningstar: Head over to the docks of the Dagger Tooth Outpost.
- Revenge of the Morningstar: You need to find the book in the captain’s quarters on the ship at the Sailor’s Grave.
- The Seabound Soul: This one is at the Shipwreck Bay and it is found in the captain’s quarters on the big wrecked ship.
- Heart of Fire: At The Morrow’s Peak Outpost near the tavern, you will find this book.
Vote on the Book
Once I found a book, it wasn’t as simple as just reading it. You and your crew have to actually vote on it, just like any other voyage. I guess that makes sense, since it’s a co-op game. So, I grabbed my buddy, we both voted on the book, and boom, the Tall Tale started.
Follow the Quest Book
After you vote, you get this special quest book in your inventory. It’s not super clear at first, but it basically tells you where to go and what to do. It’s like a little storybook, with clues and riddles and stuff. I had to follow the instructions in the book, sail to different islands, find hidden objects, and solve puzzles. Some of it was a bit tricky, but that’s part of the fun, right?
Enjoy the Story
The best part about these Tall Tales is the actual story. You get to learn more about the world of Sea of Thieves, meet new characters, and go on these epic adventures. It’s not just about finding treasure anymore, it’s about experiencing a real pirate story. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I really enjoyed the storylines and the lore they added to the game.
So yeah, that’s how I unlocked and started playing the Tall Tales in Sea of Thieves. It’s a bit of a process, but it’s totally worth it. If you’re looking for something more than just the usual sailing and treasure hunting, I definitely recommend checking them out. Just be prepared to do some exploring and puzzle-solving, and you’ll have a blast.
