Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Valorant lately, and I gotta say, I was really curious about whether or not it supports controllers. I mean, it’s a PC game, right? But still, I’m more of a console guy, so I figured, why not give it a shot?
First off, I dug around online to see what the deal was. Turns out, Valorant doesn’t have native controller support. Bummer, right? But that didn’t stop me. I’m not giving up that easily.

So, I started looking into third-party software. You know, those programs that let you remap your controller buttons to keyboard and mouse inputs. I found a couple of popular options, like reWASD and DS4Windows. Downloaded both of them to see which one I liked better.
I tried reWASD first. It’s got a clean interface and a ton of customization options. I spent a good hour just tweaking the settings, trying to get the perfect setup. It was kinda like building with LEGOs, but for your controller. I mapped the basic movement to the left stick, aim to the right stick, and then assigned all the abilities and stuff to the face buttons and triggers.
Then, I jumped into a custom game in Valorant to test it out. It felt…weird. Not bad, just different. Aiming was definitely a challenge, especially against those snappy mouse users. I got absolutely wrecked, no surprise there. But I could see the potential. With enough practice, maybe I could make it work.
Testing DS4Windows
Next, I fired up DS4Windows. It’s a bit more basic than reWASD, but it gets the job done. The setup was pretty straightforward. I just followed the on-screen instructions, and within minutes, my controller was working in Valorant. The sensitivity felt a little off, so I had to adjust it a few times. Again, aiming was the biggest hurdle. It’s just so much easier to be precise with a mouse.
After messing around with both programs for a while, I came to a conclusion. It is not that hard to make it. Here are some of my thoughts:
- It’s doable. You can definitely play Valorant with a controller using third-party software.
- It’s not ideal. You’re at a disadvantage compared to mouse and keyboard players. No doubt about it.
- It takes practice. Lots of it. You gotta get used to the sensitivity and the button mappings.
- reWASD is probably the better option. It offers more customization, which is crucial for a game like Valorant.
So, there you have it. My little experiment with controllers in Valorant. Will I keep playing with a controller? Probably not for ranked matches. But for casual games, it’s a fun way to mix things up. It’s like trying to learn a new instrument. Challenging, frustrating at times, but also kinda rewarding when you finally get the hang of it.
