Alright, so I’ve been hooked on Pokemon Go lately, and my main goal? Catching a shiny Magikarp. It’s not easy, I tell ya! But I was determined, so here’s how I finally managed to find one.
Getting Started
First things first, I knew I needed to up my chances. I started by reading up a bit online. Most folks said that Magikarp is more common near water. Makes sense, right? Fish near water.

Hunting Grounds
So I started hitting up all the local spots with water. We’ve got a few ponds in the park, a river that runs through town, and a big lake about a 30-minute drive away. I figured those would be my best bets.
The Daily Grind
- Checked the ponds in the park almost every day on my lunch break.
- Took a few evening strolls along the river after work.
- Dedicated one whole Saturday to just hanging out by the lake.
I was catching tons of Pokemon, but mostly the usual suspects. Lots of Pidgeys, a few Rattatas, the occasional Psyduck. Plenty of Magikarp, too, but no shiny ones. It was a bit frustrating, not gonna lie. I almost gave up a few times, but I kept at it, just checking those spots religiously.
Special Events
Then, boom! Pokemon Go announced a water-type event. I figured this was my chance. I made sure I had plenty of Pokeballs and cleared out my schedule.
The Event Day
The day of the event, I headed straight for the lake. It was packed with other players, which was kinda cool. Everyone was on the same mission. I spent hours walking around, tapping on every Magikarp I saw. My phone battery was taking a beating, but I had brought a portable charger, so I was good.
Finally!
And then, it happened. After what felt like a million Magikarp, one popped up with a different color. That golden shiny Magikarp was finally mine! I used a Great Ball, held my breath, and bam! Gotcha! I was so stoked, I practically jumped for joy. A couple of other players nearby even gave me high-fives. It was a good day.
So yeah, that’s how I finally caught my shiny Magikarp. It took some time, some patience, and a little bit of luck, but it was totally worth it. Now I just gotta start walking it to get enough candy to evolve it into a Gyarados!
