Okay, so, like many of you, I’m a huge Fortnite fan. I mean, who isn’t, right? Anyway, I went to fire up the game today, ready to dive into some Battle Royale action, and bam! I was hit with the dreaded “Checking for Updates” message. No big deal, I thought, it happens. But this time, it just wouldn’t go away. It was stuck. Like, really stuck.
First thing I did, naturally, was to just wait it out. I figured, maybe the servers are a bit overloaded, or my internet’s being wonky. So I went, grabbed a drink, chilled for a bit, came back… and it was still there. Still checking. Ugh.
Troubleshooting Time
Alright, time to get my hands dirty. My initial thought was to restart the game. Closed it out completely, waited a few seconds, and then launched it again. Nada. Still stuck on that same screen. Next, I thought, maybe it’s the Epic Games Launcher acting up. So I did the same thing – closed it, reopened it, tried to launch Fortnite again. Still no luck.
At this point, I was starting to get a little worried. So, I decided to reboot the whole damn system. It can solve a lot of problems. Shut it all down, waited a minute or two, powered it back on. Launched the Epic Games Launcher, then Fortnite… and… nope. Still stuck. Frustrating, to say the least!
Digging Deeper
Now I’m thinking, maybe there’s an issue with the game files. You know how sometimes things get corrupted. In the Epic Games Launcher, I found the option to “Verify” the game files. It’s like a little self-check for the game. Clicked on that, and it started doing its thing, scanning all the files. It took a while, but I was hopeful. Verification complete! Launched Fortnite… and… still stuck!
The Solution (Finally!)
Okay, last resort time. I figured, maybe I needed to clear some temporary files or something. So I went into my computer’s settings, found the temporary files section, and cleared everything out. Then, I went back to the Epic Games Launcher, right-clicked on Fortnite, and there it was – an option to “Run as Administrator.”
I clicked it, gave it permission, and boom! The game launched. I could see the loading screen, hear the music, and finally, I was in! It’s strange, cause running it as an admin shouldn’t have been the fix, but hey, it worked. I don’t recommend it, it’s not safe at all, but I was really desperate.
So, after all that, I was finally able to play. It was a longer-than-expected journey, but I figured it out. If you run into this issue, hopefully, my little adventure here will help you get back in the game faster. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some Victory Royales to chase!
- Restart the game.
- Restart the Epic Games Launcher.
- Restart the computer.
- Verify game files.
- Run as adminstrator.
