Today, I went to Iron Gate Berry Farm. It’s a bit out of the way, but I’d heard good things, so I figured I’d check it out.
First off, getting there was a bit of a trek. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, but the scenery on the drive was pretty nice. Drove through some rolling hills and farmland. Once I got there, parked the car and headed to the entrance.
They had a bunch of different berries you could pick yourself. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, you name it. I grabbed a basket and started with the strawberries. They were huge and juicy! Seriously, some of the best strawberries I’ve ever had.
- Spent a good hour just wandering through the strawberry patch, picking the ripest ones I could find.
- After that, I moved on to the blueberries. They weren’t quite as impressive as the strawberries, but still pretty tasty.
- Filled up another basket with those. Didn’t bother with the raspberries this time.
By the time I was done, I had two baskets overflowing with berries. Figured I’d probably end up making a pie or something with them. Or maybe just eat them straight out of the basket, they were that good.
Paid for my haul at the little farm stand they had set up. Prices were pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality of the berries. Plus, it’s kind of fun to pick your own.
All in all, a pretty successful trip to Iron Gate Berry Farm. Would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area and looking for some fresh, delicious berries. Just be prepared for a bit of a drive, and maybe wear some old shoes, ’cause it can get a little muddy out in the fields. But hey, that’s all part of the experience, right?
Next time I go, I’m going to make sure to wear some older clothes so I don’t worry about messing up my nice ones.
Overall a good time!
Oh, I also bought a jar of their homemade jam. Haven’t tried it yet, but it looks pretty darn good!
