Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Typhlosion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and I gotta say, figuring out the best moveset took some time. Here’s what I did.
First, I caught a Typhlosion, obviously. Then, I started checking out what people online were saying about its best moves. Seems like everyone agrees that Incinerate and Blast Burn are the way to go for pure damage output. And yeah, when I tested that combo, it really did shred through most opponents in Gym battles.

But I wanted to see if I could make it even better. I remembered seeing something about Hisuian Typhlosion using Flamethrower and Shadow Ball, so I thought, why not try that on my regular Typhlosion? I replaced Incinerate and Blast Burn and gave it a go. Honestly, it felt pretty solid! Flamethrower is a great move, reliable power and all that. Shadow Ball adds some nice type coverage, too.
Then I dove deeper into some older guides, like, way back to the 4th gen games. People there were all about using a Timid nature and Choice Scarf or Specs. I tried that out, too. It’s all about making Typhlosion super fast and hitting hard. It worked pretty well in the newer games, too, but I felt like I was missing out on some potential, you know?
Finally, I checked out some stuff about Pokemon GO. Their recommendations were pretty similar – Incinerate and Blast Burn for offense. They mentioned something about Overheat as an alternative, so I experimented with that for a bit. Overheat is powerful, but it lowers Typhlosion’s Special Attack, so it’s a bit of a gamble.
My Personal Build
After all that testing and experimenting, here’s the moveset I’ve settled on for now:
- Flamethrower: Just a solid, reliable STAB move.
- Shadow Ball: Good for coverage and hitting Ghost-types.
- Overheat: For when I need that extra burst of power, even with the drawback.
- Solar Beam: Yeah, it requires some charging, but it’s a great way to deal with Typhlosion’s weaknesses. Also requires Sunny Day to be effective.
I’m still tweaking things here and there, but I’m pretty happy with this build so far. It’s a good balance of power and coverage, and it lets me use Typhlosion in a bunch of different situations. If you’ve got any other ideas, let me know! I’m always up for trying new things.
