Okay, so I finally decided to give this “MLB The Show” thing a shot. I saw some folks talking about how they were racking up these things called “program stars”, and I thought, “Why not?” I mean, who doesn’t like collecting shiny things, right?
Getting Started
First thing I did was boot up the game. I spent some time just hitting balls in batting practice. I wanted to get a feel for the controls, you know? After a while, I started poking around the different modes. There’s a lot to do, but I was focused on these program stars.

I found this “Programs” section, and that’s where the magic happens. It looks like you get stars by completing different tasks. Some of them were simple, like “play a game”. Easy enough. Others were a bit more specific, like hitting a certain number of home runs or striking out a bunch of batters.
The Grind Begins
So I started playing games. I picked a team I liked and just started going at it. I was winning some, losing some, but I was definitely earning those stars. It felt good to see that number going up. I wasn’t sure what they did at first, but hey, progress is progress.
Then I noticed these “Moments” challenges. They’re like little scenarios where you have to do something specific, like hit a walk-off homer or pitch a perfect inning. These were pretty fun, and they give you a decent chunk of stars. I spent a good amount of time knocking these out.
Daily Dose of Stars
I also saw that there are daily challenges. It looks like they reset every day, so you gotta make sure to do them if you want to maximize your stars. They weren’t too hard, mostly things like “get a certain number of hits” or “score a few runs”. I started making it a habit to check these out first thing when I logged in.
Showdown Time
There’s this mode called “Showdown” that seemed to be a good way to get a lot of stars quickly, but man, it was tough at first. You have to draft a team and then beat a series of challenges. I got my butt kicked a few times, but I eventually got the hang of it. It’s definitely a good way to earn stars, but you gotta be prepared to lose a few times while you’re learning.
My Current Strategy
Right now, I’m just trying to play a little bit each day. I do the daily challenges, maybe a few Moments, and then play a couple of games. It’s not a crazy grind, but I’m still making progress. I’ve unlocked some cool rewards already, like new players and equipment. It’s actually pretty fun seeing what I can unlock next.
Still Learning
I’m still pretty new to all of this, but I’m definitely enjoying it. There’s a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m getting a good handle on how to earn these program stars. I’ll keep playing and see what other tips and tricks I can pick up. Maybe I’ll even become one of those MLB The Show pros one day. Who knows?
