Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “Halloween Cup” thing in Pokémon GO, and I thought I’d share my experience and what I’ve found. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
Getting Started
First off, I had to figure out what this whole Halloween Cup was about. It’s like this special limited-time event in the GO Battle League where only certain types of Pokémon can be used, like Ghost, Poison, Bug, Dark, and Fairy types. And they all gotta be under 1500 CP. So, I dug through my Pokémon collection to see what I had.
Building My Team
I started by picking out some of my strongest Pokémon that fit the rules. I found a pretty decent Azumarill, which is a Fairy and Water type, so it’s only counted as a Fairy type in this event. Then, I added a Galarian Stunfisk, yeah it is not a allowed type, but I just wanted to give it a try. For the last one, I chose a Shadow Nidoqueen I had been leveling up because why not right? It had the right types and seemed tough enough.
- Azumarill: Seemed like a solid choice because of its bulk and it can handle Dark types pretty well.
- Galarian Stunfisk: I know this was not allowed, I just wanted to see how it performed.
- Shadow Nidoqueen: Poison and Ground type, powerful and can surprise opponents.
First Few Battles
I jumped into my first few battles and, man, it was rough. My Azumarill was doing okay, but my Galarian Stunfisk just couldn’t hold its own, and the Nidoqueen, while powerful, seemed to struggle against some common picks. I lost more than I won, which was a bit of a bummer.
Adjustments and Strategy
After getting my butt kicked a few times, I realized I needed to change things up. The first obvious move was replacing Galarian Stunfisk. And I decided to swap out Nidoqueen for a Toxicroak I had. It’s Poison and Fighting, so I thought it might handle Dark types better and also surprise some people. I also spent some time looking up what other people were using and what strategies were working for them.
- Swapped Galarian Stunfisk for Tentacruel.
- Replaced Nidoqueen with Toxicroak.
- Researched popular team comps and strategies online.
More Battles
With my new team, I headed back into battle. Things started to look up. Tentacruel was a beast against those pesky Fairy types, and Toxicroak was pulling its weight, especially against Dark and Steel types that I encountered. I still lost some matches, but I was definitely winning more.
Climbing the Ranks
I kept tweaking my strategy, paying attention to the movesets of my Pokémon, and trying to predict what my opponents would bring. It was a grind, but I started to climb the ranks. I wasn’t hitting the top of the leaderboards or anything, but I was making progress and having a lot more fun.
Final Thoughts
So, that’s been my journey with the Halloween Cup. It’s been a mix of frustration and excitement. I’ve learned a lot about team building, strategy, and the importance of type matchups. I’m still no expert, but I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better. If you’re thinking about trying it out, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared to experiment and don’t get discouraged if you lose a lot at first. It’s all part of the learning process. And hey, it’s just a game, so have fun with it!
