Alright, so I’ve been messing around with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and like everyone else, I was curious about the whole “Performance” mode thing – sharp versus smooth. You know, the graphical settings. I wanted to see what the fuss was all about, so I dove in.
First off, I fired up the game and went straight to the settings. Found the “Performance” option and saw those two choices: “Sharp” and “Smooth.” I figured, why not start with “Sharp?” So, I selected it and jumped back into the game.

Honestly, at first glance, things looked pretty crisp. I ran around, fought a few battles, and the visuals were definitely sharp. I mean, the edges on everything seemed super defined, you know? Like, really pronounced. But then I started noticing something a little off, especially in motion. It wasn’t terrible, but it just didn’t feel quite right, it seemed a little jerky in motion.
Switched over to “Smooth” next. The difference wasn’t night and day, but it was there. Things looked a tad softer around the edges, but the motion felt way better. Less of that weird… I don’t even know how to describe it, maybe less jerky? It just felt more fluid, you know?
- Sharp: Makes the game look super crisp standing still, but kinda odd when things are moving fast.
- Smooth: Softens things a bit, but the movement feels way more natural.
Here’s the thing I’ve found
I played for a few hours with each setting, just to get a good feel. Swapped back and forth a couple of times too, just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things. And yeah, “Smooth” definitely felt better to me. It might not be as “sharp” literally, but it just felt more enjoyable overall when I was actually playing.
At the end of the day, it’s probably down to personal preference. But if you’re messing around with the settings in FF7 Rebirth, I’d say give both “Sharp” and “Smooth” a try. Spend some time with each, and see which one feels better for you. For me, “Smooth” was the winner. It’s just a more pleasant experience while playing.
Hope this helps someone out there. Game on!
