Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of Pokemon Go lately, and I’ve got this Genesect that I’m trying to figure out the best moves for. It’s a cool Bug/Steel type, so it’s got some interesting possibilities. I spent a good chunk of yesterday evening doing some experimenting and thought I’d share what I found. I tried a bunch of stuff, believe me.
First off, I went through all the Fast Moves that Genesect can learn. You know, the ones you tap quickly to charge up your main attack. It’s got Metal Claw and Fury Cutter. Metal Claw seemed like a good choice at first, since it benefits from that Steel typing. I used it in a few raids and it felt… okay. Did decent damage, but it wasn’t anything amazing. Charged up my Charged Move pretty slowly, to be honest.

Then I switched to Fury Cutter. This one’s a Bug-type move, and man, what a difference! It was way faster, and my Charged Moves were ready to go in no time. I was spamming them like crazy. For raiding, Fury Cutter is definitely the way to go, no doubt in my mind.
- Magnet Bomb: I tested this one first. It’s a Steel-type move, so I thought it might be powerful. It was alright, but not super impressive. I don’t love it.
- X-Scissor: This is a Bug-type move. It charged up fast thanks to Fury Cutter, and it did pretty good damage. It was a fun one.
- Gunk Shot: Okay, this one is a Poison-type move, which is a little weird, right? But it hits really hard! It’s kind of a wild card, but I liked it, especially for taking down those pesky Fairy-types.
- Hyper Beam: This is a classic Normal-type move. It takes a while to charge, but when it hits, it hits like a truck. The problem was it didn’t get any type bonuses, so it felt kind of wasteful.
Charged Moves
So, after messing around with all these moves, here’s what I settled on: Fury Cutter as the Fast Move, no question. It just charges up your Charged Moves so much faster. For the Charged Move, I’m actually going with two: X-Scissor and Gunk Shot. X-Scissor for that quick, reliable Bug-type damage, and Gunk Shot for when I need a big, unexpected hit. It felt like the best combo for me when I was playing, and I took down a bunch of other Pokemon with this combo.
I’m pretty happy with this setup. It’s been working great in raids and gym battles. I wrecked a few gyms yesterday! If you’ve got a Genesect, give it a try and let me know what you think! Maybe you’ll even come up with something better. I’m always up for trying new things in this game.
